What potential directors do you guys think Marvel Studios should be eyeing as we head toward post-Avengers projects? Two that come to mind for me are Duncan Jones and Matt Reeves.

Just by guessing, I would say Duncan Jones is up Marvel's alley moreso due to Source Code. Matt Reeves' films so far are too violent and POV perspective gimmicky for what they're looking for.

They tend to hire directors who fit their films fairly closely and who aren't too high up on the chart. Both directors you mentioned are definitely in that arena politically, I just figure Reeves would be someone they would go to if they were making a horror film.

Here's to hoping, which is more than I can say for the Daredevil redo or Spider-Man 3D.
Good point

I liked the first Crank. Thought it was a pretty cool, simple story and I dug the shooting/editing style. I also liked the satirical edge to it. I'm cautiously optimistic about the new Ghost Rider.

Yeah, I guess Zowie Bowie is a possibility. Garth Jennings and Brad Silberling would fit too, the one way or the other. Depends what projects Marvel wants to make and what style they have in mind.

Reeves 2 films are very different from one another though. And Cloverfield was still PG-13. What those 2 show is that the guy has range and a bit of a head on his shoulders. That's the kind of director Marvel should want. Although I'm kinda hard pressed right now to think of one of their properties that I would consider an automatic fit with him at the helm.

Jennings...eh, maybe. I don't see Silberling as being up to their standards.

And Jones is rumored to maybe get snatched up by FOX for the Wolverine movie.

I'm trying to think of other directors who might be a good fit. Maybe Tom McCarthy?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_...y_(entertainer)

That he's directing some in Game of Thrones says to me that he's not genre-averse(one of the reasons I didn't even bother suggesting someone like Jason Reitman),even though his 3 directed films are all small, indie, non-genre films. They all were financially successful and well received by critics & audiences(those few who saw them).

Alex Proyas. He's good at sci fi, and has a dark, moody edge to his work. I'd like to see him do something cosmic related.

As long as it ain't another Knowing. But that may have been due to the bad script.

I'm down for most of that, but I can't really see Hawkeye or Black Widow carrying their own titles. I'd rather see them as part of a general S.H.I.E.L.D. movie with Fury at the fore (and introducing other Marvel staples like Jessica Drew, Abigail Brand and Sharon Carter).

Plus, rather than just recycling the same four or five characters time and again, I'd like to see the Marvel U expand....I'd say Luke Cage, Dr. Strange and Ant-Man are likely to be developed pretty quickly in the next couple of years.

No Hawkeye or Black Widow movie imo, just a SHIELD movie.

Don't forget Ant Man, and Luke Cage, Dr Strange.

I want Iron Fist instead of Iron Man 4. If Black doesn't use the Mandarin he may as well be the villain in Iron Fist.

See, personally, after Avengers I would love the next one to be a Dr Strange or Iron Fist, something that feels more isolated as a story. It would be a nice come down after the epic cross over of Avengers. We don't need Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 immediately.

I prefer a Heroes for Hire film than solos for Ironfist and Cage.

I dunno, I think they're two characters who need to be established first, especially if they want to be taken seriously.

The formula would be a nice change from solo origin movies.

But would it do the characters justice for fans and the GA?

I dunno, a solo film based on Fraction and Brubakers Immortal Iron Fist would be awesome. Like a superhero wuxia film.

Yeah, I think both have very specific and different backstories that would be a bit much for a GA to swallow. After Avengers, you can't just throw superheroes in there willy nilly without the same attention to detaile. Especially when the origins so heavily inform the characters.

Certainly for the GA if well written. For me I don't care as they're c-list to me. If written well I'm for it. I prefer to get 3 films from these guys as opposed to 6, curtailing the oversaturation some. There's other c-list characters I'm more interested in that others probably aren't.

I find Iron Fist far more interesting than Luke Cage, although Marvel may balk at two films set around Tibet, but I have faith they'll decide what's best for Rand's story on film.

What is so great about Luke Cage anyway? Now, Black Panther, there's a great black superhero. I love to be open minded towards all concepts so please help me out regarding Luke. I wouldn't mind him appearing in an Alias film simply because Marvel can stick a finger at the rest of Hollywood by having a black and white couple on screen. I think my impression of Cage is primarily due to TFWiki's article (he appeared in New Avengers/Transformers so there's their excuse) about him: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Luke_Cage

Quote:
"Listen up, jive-turkeys! Luke Cage is the trash-talkin'est, tiara-wearin'est, bad-guy-beat-downin'est ethnic stereotype the '70s have to offer! Well I think the reason for Marvel's success so far is purely from the dedication to the characters, and portraying them in the most faithful and detailed way. Glossing over their origins, which ARE crucial to forming who they are not only does them less justice but doesn't set up their friendship in the best way possible.

Look at Cap and Stark. Sure they're A listers, but think how much more fulfilling seeing their friendship formed in The Avengers will be after learning who they are and what they're about as people?
