I'm for sure thinking one of the 3 dates listed so far is going to be for Dr. Strange since Feige is intent on getting him on-screen and there's supposedly going to be a big announcement at SDCC.

I can't see them rushing out TA3 so fast after TA2. I could easily see them doing an April release with TA2, similar to what they're doing with CA: TWS. As for the 2nd 2016 date, I'm surprised they're going with them so close after splitting up IM3 and Thor: TDW far apart this year. Marvel has so many franchises happening or in the works, which makes it kind of difficult to peg what they're planning.

This is what I'm hoping for:

May 16: Thor 3
July 16: Dr. Strange
Fall/Winter 16: Black Panther
May 17: Captain America 3
Summer/Fall 17: GotG 2
Fall/Winter 17: Ms. Marvel
I have no idea: Avengers 3

As much as I want a Hulk film, i don't think Joss is going to "let" Marvel get away with not giving a female superhero her own film in either of the 3 phases.

Sorry but I doubt Joss has that much power where he can dictate what movies Marvel Studios/Disney should make.

True, but I'll bet if (in a parallel universe) Joss wrote a WW script and brought it to WB to write and direct TODAY there's a better than 50% chance it would get made.

If Whedon brings a treatment or just some ideas about the Hulk to Feige and hes like "I can totally nail this movie" and "it will be just like Hulk in the Avengers, only NON-STOP FOR TWO HOURS!" then I think it would at least get the ball rolling. I'd rather they focus on other stuff personally.

Bare in mind that Thor 2 was originally slated for a July 2013 release people.

It's highly likely that date will move, as did GOTG's

Eh, the more crowded the production slates get, and the more experienced the studio gets in producing multiple projects simultaneously, the closer theyll get to nailing their target dates going forward. A move of a month or two is still quite possible, but a 4-6 month swing should be unlikely in the future.

I was referring to the state of 2011 comic book movies in general. Either they weren't good enough to really soar (Thor, X: First Class, Captain America), or they struck out with critics and audiences (GL, Cowboys & Aliens). I think I'm confusing 'oversaturation' with 'fatigue' though.

And their movies should be more properly distributed throughout the year, like this year's IM3 and Thor 2 have been. Give other rivals' movies a chance to shine... variety is good for competition.

Yeah, oversaturation will do. Fatigue connotes people are tired of seeing cbm's in general. I think having sucky movies like GL and C&A hurt a lot.

I just don't think that the quantity of movies released within the summer movie season is as relevant to those films' success as the quality of those movies is. I think if a movie is good/entertaining/marketed well enough, it will succeed. I really don't think Green Lantern and Cowboys and Aliens would have done any better than they did if they were released on different dates in 2011. You can't chalk up their failures to their release dates or oversaturation. Oversaturation of bad quality within those movies, maybe.

Good thing, they secured a 2nd summer slot for 2016. I hope they stick to May/July.

I don't think August/April/November is a perfect slot for superhero films.

I want Marvel to keep the 3 years gap for Avengers films.

And if Marvel's The Avengers 3 is coming out in May 2017, that might mean that we are only getting three or at best four phase 3 films before TA3.

We don't know that for sure. For all we know, CA:TWS could open huge and close with $300M in the till. The weekday grosses would be softer, but the weekends would hold better.

Same thing for Thor 2. Why not have superhero films open elsewhere if summer is too full? It was originally scheduled for July 26 before being pushed back to November 8.

Only time will tell. But April is usually a quiet month, August is usually the weakest month of the summer and there has been a comic-book film adaptation that did very well in November. If Thor 2 can perform like a Harry Potter/Twilight/LOTR movie in November, then they made the right decision to release in November.

Thor will be fine in November. Cap in April? Not so sure about that one, but that's the only time you can probably release it. Summer is too deadly. If they move it to June or July, there are just too many other options for casual movie goers.

I don't think 2011 is indicative of anything. They were all little known properties (even XFC where you had a new cast & not really any of the most popular characters) fighting to establish an audience, or win back an audience, being release in a summer where the monsters of Harry Potter, Transformers & Pirates were being released.
They were always the little dogs that summer.

No way is A3 coming out just 2 years after A2, for multiple reasons. One of which is Whedon simply won't have it, he'll want more time than that. He said he wished he had more time for the first one and that was pretty much a 2 year turn around.

2. It would severely limit the amount of films in P3. You'd have Ant Man, 2 maybe 3 films in 2016 and then A3 in '17.

Nah, that's way too rushed. Maybe they'd muscle Spidey out of the May '18 spot, but I don't think so. If anything I could see them pushing it to 4 years in '19.

I'm hoping Phase 3 is at least 7 films.

Phase 1 was six films. Phase 2 seems kind of light at only 5 films.

They already have Ant-Man and we can assume third installments for Cap and Thor. Fiege made it pretty clear he's planing on doing Dr. Strange, so that's four right there. If we are going to get another Hulk and another Cosmic entry, then it has to be at least seven movies in Phase 3.

It would be crazy not to develop another Hulk film. They have so much cool stuff they can do with their cosmic universe that they need to do AT LEAST one if not two cosmic films per phase.

Actually, it would be cool if they developed entirely separate "cosmic phases". Do a Guardians, a Nova movie, an Adam Warlock, and then do a big "Universe in peril" Avengers-style crossover event. I'd love to see something like that. But I don't want the Earth stories to be neglected. Maybe if they can regularly do 3 films a year they can do something like this.

Since Marvel Studios is a movie production company who's only purpose for existing is to make movies based on Marvel Comics properties, it would make sense for them to look at developing their cosmic stuff into its own thing eventually and not just an Avengers "add-on".
