Most mutants do not know they have the X-gene until puberty. They (mostly) have normal childhoods. Superman didn't. And who says that a Clark Kent with parents is a Clark Kent with a perfect life? Again, Aunt May. Still alive. Peter Parker still has a pretty messed up life. She's a source of comfort for him. She doesn't make all the bad problems go away.

The way the Kents were handled, along with Clark having a great career AND a storybook perfect marriage all added up to him having a perfect personal life. With Aunt May, her health is bad, Peter is often too broke to help her, etc, so in many ways she adds complications to Pete's life, therefore she helps make his book more interesting.

So you think Clark is a moron then? You think he doesn't know that he won't be able to keep his parents alive forever? You think this will be some grand revelation for him? He knows that he is invincible and other people aren't. He doesn't need to have his parents die to emphasize that fact. In fact, it would probably be better to show him failing for the first time in costume, showing that even when he tries his hardest he can't do everything at once. And you know who could get him out of that type of funk? His parents, the people who have been there for him his entire life. They're his Alfred.

Knowing that and feeling it, as Superman-Prime said, are two different things. In fact, him losing his parents when he reaches adulthood is a sad preview of what he eventually will have to go through as Superman-because in all likelihood, Superman would live so long that he would see Lois, Lana, Jimmy, Perry, etc all get older and pass away...and eventually he also has to lose Clark as well. Superman is the only one of his kind, even if Kandor exists. They all grew up as Kryptonians and don't have his self-assumed burden. Nor does Kara. Only Superman has what it takes to do what he does and be who he is. And that is because he was raised and prepared himself from childhood to be that hero.

And yes, this discussion is interesting but also way off course. Still, it is important.

I'd say the conversation were entertaining if i felt people were learning something....if people didnt want to check out these various superman stories BEFORE bashing them as supposedly being one dimensional, I doubt an internet conversation will enlighten them, tbh.

Kevin Costner Cast as Jonathan Kent in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ Upcoming Superman Movie

BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Kevin Costner will play Jonathan Kent, the father who raised Clark Kent as his own son, in the new Superman movie to be directed by Zack Snyder.

Snyder stated, “Jonathan Kent is the only father figure Clark has ever had, the man who was there to help Clark understand what he was meant to do in the world as Superman. Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest super hero of all time.”

Costner will star alongside Diane Lane, who plays his wife, Martha, and the film’s star, Henry Cavill, who will play the new Clark Kent/Superman.

Costner most recently starred in 2010’s “The Company Men,” and is currently in development on the comedy “The One.” He has won two Academy Awards®, for producing and directing the epic “Dances with Wolves,” also garnering a nomination for Best Actor. He has also starred in a wide range of memorable films, including “The Untouchables,” “No Way Out,” “Bull Durham,” “Field of Dreams,” “JFK,” “The Bodyguard,” “Wyatt Earp,” “Tin Cup” and “Swing Vote,” to name a few.

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

The new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
