Well, he did work for the NJ Government, and threatening to fire someone is a form of coercion and trying to silence.

Yeah, I don't like the idea of a business being able to fire someone for something they did while not at work.

It's funny because conservatives usually hate the ACLU. I wonder what they will say about this issue.

This is an interesting story. First:

"Mr. Fenton's public actions violated New Jersey Transit's code of ethics," an agency statement said.
"NJ Transit concluded that Mr. Fenton violated his trust as a state employee and therefore [he] was dismissed."

What are these code of ethics? How was trust violated? It said he was an "assistant train-consist coordinator". I could see if he was a bus driver or someone who dealt with the public everyday, how that could lead to a conflict of interest and make people feel uncomfortable dealing with him. I don't see a coordinator interacting with the public much, so I see where this would be an issue.

Second:

"He said, 'This is America,' and he wanted to stand up for it, in a Tea Party kind of way," a police source said.

Is this guy a Tea Partier? If he is, I find it ironic that he makes a living working for the Government being paid by the tax payers.

Still, as much as I despise the guy, I'm open to considering the ACLU's arguments. Assuming this guy wasn't on the clock when he was doing this burning, the so-called "code of conduct" can't be so broadly interpreted as to lead to a firing. Unless there's a line in the code of conduct saying "you can't publicly burn books" it seems unfair that such a transgression, no matter how distasteful I think it is, leads to termination in such a sudden manner.

Freedom of speech means the government can't impose sanctions upon your for engaging in acts of political expression, and being fired from the government job might qualify as such a sanction.

And I would not call the terrorists from 9/11 human.

Also waiting to hear the excuses from the shady acquisition of the property.
How is my arguement stupid?

The WHO and the WHAT are completely separate. So a piece of fuselage fell "near" it. So what? How does approximation make something sacred? The dust cloud after the buildings fell spread for dozens of blocks. Does that make all of lower Manhatten sacred? Muslims also died in the WTC, so technically the area around the WTC would be sacred to Muslims as well, and that would make the mosque being built fully justified.

That deals with the WHAT, but as for the WHO, as far as I know, no one has officially declaired it sacred.

Also, like it or not, they were humans. And by your logic, if you are part of a group, everybody in the group must be held accountable. The terrorist were Muslims, so Muslims are not allowed to build a worship center near the WTC. Well, they were also Human, Males, most were Saudis, I heard one of them was a huge Three Stooges fan, none of these people should be allowed near the WTC, Pentagon, and some random field in PA.

It was on Bill Maher. Most of the clip is about him calling Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin America's Taliban

He says the McDonald's part at the end. He might be joking but it's still stupid and borderline insensitive.

Michael Moore has never really been one for intelligent comments and tact. He really needs to stick to his movies and stop commenting on different things.

Since when do we care what Michael Moore has to say? Serious people talking about what he says just encourges him. Just ignore him.

As a Michael Moore fan I found that pretty stupid. I get what he was trying to say, but he should have done it better

Judging by how he looks currently, he'll probably be joining them soon. Looks like now that the government healthcare he "successfully" grandstanded for is a reality, he's let himself go.

Michael Moore should really take care of his eating disorder. He looks worse and worse every time I have the displeasure of seeing him.

Thank you Anderson Cooper. This woman is a disgrace to our state and our country. Nothing but Fox News--innuendos and half-truths to reinforce bigoted views.

Thanks for taking her down a peg. She will not win.

I haven't heard a lot about this in the news for a week or two, it seems. Good news maybe? They're quietly getting on with construction and it will be up and running just like any other project in NYC?
