also fairly well versed in soft cut color separations, and various forms of digital coloring

I think you mean the twisted webbing pattern. That's supposed to be there. I sorta used the look from Spider-Man 3.

Yes that's it it wasn't a common thing I've seen I suspected it to try to add dimensions - guess not - I didn't really watch spiderman 3 so that's prob why I don't know it

What's worse spiderman has another movie in about 5 months and i can tell you this it doesn't look promising

all new actors revamping his origin AGAIN spidey vs The Lizard

Though it does appear a little closer to the old comics at least this time

Not Spiderman 4 - It's spiderman 1 again

As a suggestion if coloring especially with these "cuts" you use you can add a whole lot more additional shades to add depth and perspective - also using an "off color" to add more "light sources" I sometimes use 2-3 different additional colors in same area to help give a dimensional feel

Just a suggestion of course do as you will - I have a few online samples of cut coloring I did if interested let me know

here's a very good sample of a recent unfinished piece

zoom to original size - in many parts shows multiple layers of fine cuts - Not doing them as heavy separations but more gradual cuts
often using slighht touches of off-colors to give highlights
like pink-red - orange on Blue areas
and purples on blues and reds

though this image is based on Wallaces line-art it is a very fine example of color cuts close together

these types of cuts can also be applied to regular line art however to get this much detail it would be limited dark area line-art

In past certain arts also really went heavily on the off colors well beyond what i do here - But That's tricky to mold well

I use smooth scaling as well not harsh
