I think it matters big time. Imo those who have read the book before have a skewed perspective of the finished product. A mate of mine summed it up best that he was 'filling in the missing pieces'.

I had also read the book before seeing the movie, and it was the really only thing that was keeping me connected to the film enough to sit through it. Otherwise I probably would have turned it off about 10 minutes in. I have seen other movies for which I had read the source material before, and I like when I can almost leave that out and let what's happening on the screen take me along as if I'm seeing...and absorbing...the story for the first time, not as if I'm evaluating a translation, like with Watchmen.

I love how everyone craps on 300, it reminds me on how out of touch people on this message board really are. Given its an action movie and not oscar material but it clicked with general audiences and made a lot of money. As long as they strike a balance on superman it will be fine, catering to much to the fans is a sure way to put the final nail in supermans movie career.

Ding-ding-ding. We have a winner. Snyder/Nolan/Goyer will give fans enough to be happy about yet make sure it will carry over commercially. As I've said before, make a sh**-ton of money on the first one and then you can take all the liberties you'd like on the sequel.

300 I was actually okay with. You could just sit back and let it play out....and pound out...and slash out...and stomp out.....and....
You get the picture. Guilty pleasure, in a way. You could even watch in in different languages that you didn't understand...and it would play just the same. That's definitely achieving something.

Thinking a movie is crappy doesn't mean I'm "out of touch".

300 was exactely like the comic book. Go complain to Frank Miller and the graphic novel then. Zack, imo, improved over the original story.

You're right, it doesn't mean you can't acknowledge the fact that it appealed to people. Its like the twilight situation, everyone has no problem bashing the movie but forgets that for some strange reason they are appealing to a large group of people and just like to ignore that fact, then go on to discuss super powers. Posts such as "300 sucked" and two posts later "i agree" don't really add much to a conversation.

Everybody I know who watched it and hadn't read the comic had no trouble following the film. That includes the people who didn't like it.

Guess that confirms Nolan's still working on it I love how he kind of dodges the question about if he liked Superman Returns and Richard Donner's Superman movies buy just saying I love the movie, I think hes on about Superman the Movie only. His sarcastic answer about Lois Lane is brilliant guess he's saying dont believe everything you read on the net. I reckon she's in it personally.

Well, if they had to fill in the missing pieces, then that would imply the film was difficult to follow...

No, what it means is that those who read the novel were filling in the character and story details that were left out the film. Those who didn't read it before, such as myself, saw the film for what it was, and saw the fairly blatant flaws. The only people praising the film it seems are the ones who had read and loved the book.

Not according to the people I know who haven't read it. I guess they saw the film for what it is too. Funny how their opinion is different?

Actually no, this isn't Hyperbole-World, so they just thought it was a decent film.

Decent at best, still extremely flawed.

Agreed. I strongly believe that she is. I mean how can she not be in the film about Superman? |
