Loved Rose in this. She really brings an intelligence to the role. It's easy to believe why she and Xavier were such good friends and equals. They had alot of charisma together.

...

Although I did feel a bit embarrased for her when she had to take her clothes off in the Hellfire club.

I didn't even know who Rose Byrne was before this movie. Moira was beautiful and sexy as hell, and I loved her character in this movie. Going to enjoy seeing her again, and continuing her relationship with Charles in any possible sequels.

I'm sorry if I seemed so negative about her nonexistent accent. But yeah, I think that most US movie viewers may need to lighten up. Yes, it could have been explained; I think they may have taken the easy way out.

Still, her accent-botomy isn't half as bad as the missing space squid. We still miss that.

This reminds me of Cheryl Cole incidents where she was 'sacked' from US X-factor because it assumed Americans would not understand her accent. I dont understand where this kind of thinking has come from.
I guess that would have worked. I would have accepted it. But I think the problem is that people unfamiliar with the comics would ask, "Why is she even Irish? Why isn't she American?" Honestly I think that comes from slight xenophobia and jingoism on the part of American audiences. Maybe her accent would have been perceived as a gimmick? I don't know why, all I can say is that American audiences aren't very understanding, accepting, or forgiving. It's something that Roger Ebert brought up in one of his excellent books; the modern movie viewer is TOO specific in its taste.

Storm had several accents in the first film, sometimes in the same sentence.

So does this character effectively kill the genetic scientist she is in the the comics?

I LOVED her in this movie! I thought she was awesome!

I don't think her being a CIA agent in this one means that she won't eventually end up in her doctor role on Muir Island at some point.

I liked her in this. Not to mention I didn't expect her at the party scene in that condition. Played it wonderfully when that could have come off really bad if not handled properly. Hope she has more to do in the sequel.

Yep it sounds like her career as a CIA Agent was over she could go back to college and study genetics perhaps inspired by Xavier.

It seems like
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Xavier only erased her memory of what happened after the Hellfire club's attack on CIA Headquarters

So jumping ahead to late 1960's or early 1970's could show her becoming a
scientist.

Yeah, I think rather than have Moira go "back to the typing pool" like the CIA director suggested, she'd quit the agency and start a facility at Muir Island, studying genetics. She doesn't necessarily have to be an expert right away, rather slowly build up her knowledge.

Dunno if this has ever been discussed, but does anyone else think all these changes to the Moira MacTaggert character could have been avoided if they had used someone like the Gabrielle Haller character instead? She actually worked in government organizations (although for Israel, not the U.S.) and actually had a lot of interaction with Xavier and Magneto when they were younger.

Haller isn't as prominent in the comics, but that would be a positive because more liberties could be taken with the character. Instead now it kind of seems like Moira's arc was completed in XM:FC, and it wasn't even the Moira we know anyways.

If they had used a different character in FC, then the sequel could have had Xavier forming a new team from scratch and meeting Moira in the process. She would help him but then feel betrayed when he turned them into soldiers... leading to drama! Haha just thinking out loud.

If only Vaughn knew about that obscure character... With every adaptation you always look back and think if you'd done it you'd have done this and that instead, but ultimately you have to think, did that fan (Vaughn)'s interpretation work? Well it did, and as others pointed out Moira might've been sacked and chose to retrain as a scientist like Xavier.

They might have known about Haller but chose to blend her role with Moira...

I do actually like the Moira character that was shown in the movie, but I'm not sure that anything else can be done with the character in the future without it feeling forced.

In the comics, a lot of the great Moira stories came from her disagreement on how much control Xavier was appropriating from his students... how he began putting them at risk and even making their decisions for them. I hope they get to somehow incorporate that.

I have a massive crush on Rose in this film. As for the character... I liked her, but she got pretty sidelined by the end of the film. I imagine a lot of her material was love story related and got cut.

The deleted scenes I want on the DVD are the cut scenes between Rose and james
Mcavoy. From what james said I suspect scenes were shot of a romance between Moira and xavier and Vaughn cut them from the final film.

What did James say?

I too hope there's some deleted Moira/Xavier scenes on the DVD. Actually, I feel like (or hope) there could be a deleted Moira/Erik one too.

Moira and Eric would be very interesting actually, as she is a kind of person Eric doesn't really believe in.

I bet they will end up on the DVD, but I wanted them in the film. It would be nice to show how Xavier felt comfortable in his relationship with humans, and how he trusted them, unlike Erik.

In an interview on Bleeding Cool, here's what Jane Goldman said regarding Moira and a deleted subplot..

Quote:
There’s such a lot that was shot which isn’t in the film, most of which is the absolutely right decisions, but there was extra character stuff. The most important thing, and I think the intention always was that the relationship between Charles and Erik to be central. I think that as the film evolved it became clear how powerful that was. It was important to not trivialize the differences in their ethics and outlooks by not having it to appear to be about one person. Moira is a really strong character and her involvement is massively important, but in earlier iterations, before we came along, there was a sort of love triangle thing. We had already very much drawn back from that but it was ultimately a matter of drawing back from that even further.

Sometimes things go just because of length, but it was also sometimes in service of actually allowing the Charles and Erik relationship.

When you write a screenplay, it’s the combination of things you put in that convey what you want the character to be. When it reaches the editing stage it is no longer in your hands so it’s obviously not going to be exactly the way you planned it. In service of the film, these cuts were the correct decision, but in the service of Moira’s character, it doesn’t give a full picture.

Yeah, I kinda felt like there could've been to her development in the movie, but I'm perfectly fine with what she was given.
