D'oh, you got me here. Although to grasp some straws, he said "in an old fashioned kinda way" and wanted to 'correct' her the way he did Alicia.

Now that said, wasn't that line supposed to be said by the Joker? Have you noticed that the Joker tends not to say things seriously all the time? Or that man at the party actually reminded him of his father? Or were all of those stories about his scars true? You have to read the whole script before interpreting it. Quote:
So do it and leave the good talents do their thing. Because some serious talent was required after that Holmes mediocre actress ruined part of BB. |

This would've been good. They have a slight resemblance to each other and MM looks mature without looking old like Maggie. I need to find a clip of her talking because one thing I hated about Rachel in TDK was her gawd awful voice.

Hated Katie Homes. Girl can't act. Maggie is better in every way.

Maggie is the better actress
But I felt there was a real chemistry between Bruce and Katies' Rachel |

Man, I've gone back & forth on this topic so many times. Ultimately I think I wish Katie was in TDK. Cuz I would have liked to see her handle the scenes in that flick. I think maybe she would have found her 'place' more the second time around. And who knows, maybe working with Heath in that one scene would have opened her up a little more, too. I didn't hate Maggie in the role, nor do I think she's a troll. But Michelle Monaghan would have been a pretty nice substitute.

LOL. Well... That isn't what I really meant, to be honest. Neither Katie or Maggie was ideal for the role, IMO. That said... if I had been making the new Batman franchise I probably wouldn't have chosen to create a new love interest type character who grew up with Bruce. It's really not very true to the character, he's supposed to be more of a loner than that. The only thing that prevents her from being worthless as a character is the emotional payoff of her death in TDK and the way it was useful as a plot device.

I also hate that notion of heroes being in love with a girl since they were children. Like Peter Parker in Raimi movies or Bruce in Nolan's. If anything Bruce should have seen her as a little sister, but not a love interest. |

Maggie Gyllenhaal, she's the better actress. I think the discussion about her looks get blown way out of proportion. She has bag under her eyes? Oh my God, I better burn my copy of TDK!!

Maggie is light-years better than Katie. They should have had a serious actress from the beginning.
Katie Holmes playing a DA is like Tara Reid playing a scientist.

Obviously Maggie is the better actress and did a better job but I don't like the character and wish it never existed.

Ditto. There's so many female love interests to choose from in the Batman comics. I don't know why Nolan felt the need to invent one.

Is there a female childhood friend who is both an assistant DA and love interest? Sometimes new characters have to be created to suit the story. Altering existing characters to fit it can only go so far.

I think he just needed a character that would be both Bruce's love interest AND childhood friend, and at the same time a moral guide. There wasnt a person like this in the comics
