You're the one being naive. Especially since you have Democrats like Chuck Schumer and Howard Dean rooting for a shutdown so they can blame Republicans.

If a shutdown does occur, the blame goes to both parties who put politics over compromise. Blaming just President Obama, or Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats, or John Boehner and the House Republicans is absurd and a partisan hack.

John Stewart said it best, when the Republicans wanted $60 billion in cuts and Democrats refused to go over $30 billion, instead of meeting in the middle, they would rather have a shutdown.

Our countries are so close, not just geographically, but historically, politically, financially. Whatever happens in the states effects us as well.

Well some of the Canadians I know will probably celebrate if the US government shuts down. Also I've heard Canada has been anti-American lately. In fact Canadian politicians aren't liked if they sound too American friendly.

I wouldn't be surprised if both parties did all this crap just to make it seem like they were sticking to their guns when they weren't going to shut down the government anyways.
