I saw Hanna this weekend. Great film if you like girl assassin movies. It also had a surprising amount of humor which really worked to counter all the seriousness. I hope Snyder is taking notes. It was like Bourne but funnier and with a girl.

As visually striking and layered a Delbonnel-shot Superman would be, it wouldn't be the kind of 'realistic' Superman Snyder would go for. But either way, it would look incredible. I'm shocked he's not getting more offers from U.S. productions.

I noticed that Michelle McGonagle is listed as a '3D producer' for this movie (it could be fake), and she's the '3D producer' for Transformers 3. So that could mean Snyder will end up going with a DOP who's comfortable with shooting digitally and/or familiar with 3D cameras. I'd say the more realistic options would be Glen MacPherson (The Final Destination, Three Musketeers), Claudio Miranda (Tron Legacy, Benjamin Button), Brian Pearson (Drive Angry, My Bloody Valentine 3D), or Simon Duggan (Knowing). Or it could be someone Snyder's worked with before, which is John R. Leonetti (he did Snyder's Dawn of the Dead).

I would love to see David Tattersall get the job.

I totally agree with you about him clashing with Snyder's "realistic" intent, tbh. I just couldn't resist listing him because he's my #1 fave. And yes, he needs to do more big-budget Hollywood stuff. HBP was by far the most gorgeous-looking Potter flick, imo.

Yeah, I just saw Hanna yesterday, and while there were several things I loved about it, the cinematography was actually my favorite part. I'd be psyched if he got this gig.

Hanna looked like that old Jessica Alba show from when I was a kid. What the hell was that called?

Haha, I haven't thought of that show in quite some time. I used to LOVE it. Ah, memories.

Hanna seemed much more like Bourne than Dark Angel to me.

That's what I said. If it was fleshed out a little more they could of turned it into a franchise. Not sure if it has anywhere else to go though. The ending could of been more epic and well I can't really say much else without spoiling the movie.

Oh, bum.

Still, I like the idea of Alwin Kuchler. Sunshine looked brilliant, and so does Hanna.

What about Emmanuel Lubezki, who did the cinematography for Children of Men?

That film was amazingly shot and had that very real look to it.

He's one that I listed as well. But as I said, he's the go-to DP for Terrence Malick and Alfonso Cuaron, and they both have projects set to come out next year, so I'm not sure he'll be available. I guess Malick's project is already in post-production so that shouldn't be a problem, but Cuaron's Gravity is currently in pre-production, so that could conflict.

I want Tattersall because he's worked on films with a sureal look and feel like Star Wars eps I. II, III, and Speed Racer; aswell as films with a more real world look like The Green Mile. I know he can do whatever Snyder asks of him.

Yeah, but I personally HATED the look of the Star Wars Prequels. That look you call "surreal" is the same look I call "video game-y," and it's exactly what I hope we're avoiding with this change in DPs.

I understand pulling back a bit, but why would Nolan hire Snyder and not let him use his style? You might aswell find someone else.

i have a feeling that Snyder was more of a studio decision than anything. plus, his action is adrenaline-filled...which is something that SR severely lacked. as for his visuals, i'm sure he can come up with some fantastic shots without having them look too stylistic.

I kinda agree that Zack and Fong's style are beautiful, but detached and 'video gamey'.

yeah...if this were a reboot after a successful run (ala how they'll undoubtedly reboot Batman after Nolan's run) then i wouldn't mind seeing a stylized Superman, but this one HAS to resonate with the general audience...so in that sense it HAS to look more realistic than any of Snyder's other movies, including Dawn of the Dead.

Yeah. The sad thing is that Larry Fong is capable of doing a more 'realistic' look like in Super 8..But I guess, if you want to change your style, maybe it's best to change the cinematographer. At least for now.

Superman needs some stylization. It can't be a colorless, dreary documentary. It has to look like a comic book movie. Snyder needs to follow the mold set by Spiderman and Ironman. In some of the recent interviews he comes across as unsure of what he wants the film to look like which is bad considering how close they are to production. Sets have to be built around the look you want for the film.

Larry Fong also did glorious work on Lost. I'm not bashing him, nor am I bashing Snyder (in this instance, lol). I just think the look that they create together is not what I want to see (or am expecting to see at this point) for this film.

Because I don't think that's necessarily Snyder's "style," and as much as I'm not a fan of the guy, I think it's selling him short to suggest that his style can be summed up in that particular look. That's merely the look of his films when he works with Fong. Dawn of the Dead and that animated movie he did had very different looks from that. And I'm confident that Superman can look different as well, without sacrificing Snyder's personal touch.

Which is why I listed The Green Mile in my post about Tattersall, that film has a realistic look to it.
