EDIT: I just realized that's the same clip ScreenRant used in their article that was posted here, but in case anyone missed it, I'll leave it here.

I was also about to post my favorite scene from Revolutionary Road, but then I remembered all the cursing that goes on in it. Still, if anyone hasn't seen it, I highly recommend doing a YouTube search for "Michael Shannon Revolutionary Road" and clicking the first scene that comes up. It's a doozy.
Arrested Development quotes never fail. :awesome:

But damn, that ***** slap! That is how you slap. He made it look terrifying.

He's going to make a great Zod. If he acts like this and applies that to whatever is one the page (and hopefully it's quality) then he can be one of the best villains in a comic book film. He definitely has that in him.

After watching those three clips(including the Revolutionary Road one)and having seen him in three movies, I think he's a pretty damn good character actor and can't wait to see what he does with Zod.

Now just imagine him and Cavill taking punches and leveling buildings.

Anyone else find it interesting that MOS has so far casted two major roles that involve the actors being the first of their nationality to portray their respective characters?

Henry is the first non-american to portray Superman while Michael Shannon is the first non-english actor to play Zod?lol

ETA: Thanks to Dorkyfresh for the advice.

This is a great decision......support it 100%. He should make a fine Zod. And unlike some people here I have no problem seeing a modern day take on the character after not seeing him for 30 something years on the big screen. This was what I was looking for back in 2006 instead of that failure SR. Looking forward to this film.

I feel i'm at a huge disadvantage because I never heard of Cavill or Shannon before now. But yet I have little doubt.

I really hope it comes down to that at one point in MOS.

With Snyder making this, I'm sure the action is going to be pretty awesome. Can't wait.

ITA. I don't know how anyone familiar with Shannon's work could possibly think we're gonna get a retread of Terrence Stamp's character. This Zod will almost certainly be a totally different entity. One that I can't wait to see.

I wanted to ask this: either I forgot or I just wasn't there at the time, but comparing with the recent news that General Zod will be in this reboot in a story that will feature a young Superman, maybe a Birthright-like Superman; what were the reactions back in 2003-2004 when Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow were to be the villains in Batman Begins, a reboot that was about the origin of Batman? Heck, what are the reactions/feelings towards the Lizard being the only villain in the Spider-Man reboot titled The Amazing Spider-Man? Again, just for comparsion.

i don't remember exactly how the reactions were, but from what i remember the reaction towards Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow were mostly positive. they were just wondering how they were ever going to explain the Lazarus Pit, hehe.

don't know how the reactions towards Lizard were since i don't really post on the Spider-Man forums.

Well with both of the examples, I was excited by the idea of seeing villains we had never seen on the big screen. Villains that the general public had probably never seen before at all.

One of the biggest reasons I am dissapointed by the announcement of Zod, is that we are missing the opportunity to see something NEW. Yes, I know it'll be a new take on Zod, but it's like we are saying to the general public that this is all there is... when actually there is so much more we could be exploring.

The general public barely remembers Superman II. Because it happened 30 years ago.

The general public is probably only aware that the old movies exist, not of anything in them.

Actually, I keep changing your mind... your definitely right. I keep trying to talk to people about the new Superman film, and the last few days i've been opening with 'Do you remember Zod from the old Superman movies?'... and no one has a clue what i'm talking about.

someone mentioned that Superman 1 and 2 has been playing on TBS lately, but i'm not sure how many people actually watch those movies. i get the feeling that we're so spoiled by today's costumes and technology that people see the old Superman movies as corny and campy...so they end up not watching the movies. when there are a thousand other channels to watch, the average household is probably gonna watch something else.

The third act of S:tM and all of Lester's SII are campy and a little bit corny. I'm not even going to mention III and IV.

OH yeah! Most likely. To be hontest I wouldn't be surprised if the "general public" didn't know who any of the Superman villians were.
