And when he's actually colored blue, it looks bad.

Eddie's character has to seriously be fleshed out before he becomes Venom. They really have to make you believe in Brock's hatred for Peter and why he wants him dead. Otherwise Venom become nothing more but a hollow villain with cool looks.

Agreed. One thing that needs to be established before Venom could appear is Eddie. I think Ultimate, and by extension The Spectacular Spider-Man did a good job by establishing that Eddie and Peter were friends. Trust me your best friends could turn into your worst enemies. One thing that they would need to avoid is ending up turning Eddie into Harry Osborn (best friend who gains a vendetta against Peter/Spider-Man). I guess one thing that could happen to differentiate the two is the fact that Harry gains redemption, whereas Eddie is perpetually blinded by the mutual hatred of him and the Symbiote. Plus the fact that Harry just wants to avenge his father, where Eddie has a twisted view of justice and wants revenge...wonder if they'll go the "mine and mine alone" thing with Venom or if they'll make him a snitch like in TSSM with Peter's identity...

whatever they do; if he's used again, he absolutely has to be set up within multiple movies. I like the tssm approach where he starts out cool and inconspicuous, then slowly grow darker.

I prefer the SM:TAS approach, where he starts out as a jerk towards Peter and thinks of Spider-Man as much a menace as JJ does, and that punk Parker keeps one-upping him on the job with better pics of Spidey while Brock can't catch a break, jealousy. But yes, he needs to be fleshed out in a movie(s) prior to the one Venom debuts.

Maybe Harry could've been the one working with Venom instead of Sandman? That would've been kinda awesome, seeing Venom easily manipulate Harry because of Harry's blind hatred for Peter, and not because Venom needs help but because it makes Spidey's defeat "so much more fun"

Venom was always a manipulative little bastard. i really hope that we get to see eddie brock develop in all three movie's and become venom. I know green goblin will come but Venom definatly needs to show up soon. He's spiderman's ultimate physical villain afterall.

Has anyone been cast as Eddie Brock in this movie at all? I only ask because I agree with you guys he needs at least one movie of just being Eddie before turning into Venom and I havent been following this movie that much.

I highly doubt we'll see him in this first movie, but it would be great indeed. Also ye, he definetly needs to show up with a movie before he will become Venom (or with 2 movies, I don't mind)! The way he was handled in SM3 is definetly a no-go.

I'm drawing a blank. Exactly where has 616-Eddie Brock/Venom been portrayed as manipulative?

My bad the ones Ive read i've seen venom scare mary jane and tell peter to fight him. Then he goes to Aunt mays house and helps her with the laundry and stuff just to tick peter off. I cant think of anything else right now.

Actually thats what I don't want. More Mary-Jane (or Gwen) needing to be rescued all the time (from Venom or otherwise) in these films. Every single Raimi Spidey film made MJ a damsel.

Nope. The Daily Bugle won't even be in this movie, there'll be a couple references to it but we won't see JJ & the crew.

Lol this reminds me of an arguement I got ino when I was a kid. Another kid was trying to tell me Wolverin'e hair was blue since they use that color to highlight black in comics.

When I was a kid I always wondered why wolverines hair was blue in Xmen TAS. and I never got why venom in TAS had half red half blue highlights, lighting didnt matter either.

It was a comics thing in general. Spidey was originally going to be red & black, but since the black parts were always shaded blue it just officially became red & blue.
Hell, it still sort of continues to this day. Look at my avatar for example, that picture is from 'Cable & Deadpool' which from the last decade.

I knew JJ wouldnt be in this but even the Bugle isnt much? Wow, that is a bit of a departure from what I know if Spidey. Oh well, might not be such a bad thing.

Well, he's still in high school for (I assume) all of the movie. I don't see why a major newspaper company would hire a teenager.
