How is Justice Society?

I've been away from comics since 2007ish and while I don't miss most of it, I will tell you that I really miss JSA. JSA was one of the few comics that was consistently good from the time I started reading comics to the time I stopped and I really would like to get back into it.

So my question to you fine people, is whether it's worth getting back into and if there was a recent jumping on point that I could go back and get. And also, how tied up is it in current DC story arcs, because I really have no interest in reading half the company to keep up with my favorite characters. Thanks for your help.

P.S. I would find the mega thread, but I'd rather not have to wade through spoilers.
