Default two questions (spoilers)

So I've never read any Thor comics and two things in the movie confused me.

1.) What is Odinsleep? Seems like Anthony Hopkins gets yelled at and just takes a nap.

2.) If Loki is actually a frost giant, why doesn't he have the blue skin and red eyes?

I think it was clearly shown that Odin found a way to disguise Loki, except whenever he comes into contact with Jotun magic.

Well the best way to describe the Odinsleep is, Think of Odin a rechargeable battery, every now and then he needs to recharge his godly energy called the Odin Force (kind of like Silver Surfer's Power Cosmic but a magical version). It flows through EVERYTHING and Everyone on Asgard.

Now depending how active he is using the Odin Force depends on how long he is in an Odinsleep.

In Marvel's mythology, if Odin has an "average/normal" year, Marvel's Odin goes into a yearly Odinsleep during winter. If he's highly active, or something drains alot of the Odin Force from him he would need to recharge sooner.

While IN the Odinsleep, he's actually between Life and Death. He had no heart beat during this period. He can be considered as being in a godly Coma, he's dead, but, not dead.

As for Loki, the Frost Giants in the Comics and Myth are Shape Shifters.

In the Myth one time, there was a Frost giant disguised as a Asgardian Brick layer, and the wall around Asgard was damaged during a battle. Long story Short, Loki ends up turning into a female horse to distract the Brick layers male horse. The male horse ends up getting Horse-Loki pregnant, and Loki gives birth to Odin's Horse Slepnir.

In the Movie, I think Odin taps that natural power to hide Loki's true form when Odin finds the abandoned Loki.

So then the way we see Loki is just a constantly projected illusion? His true form is that of a blue frost giant?

And re: Odinsleep, am I to understand then that it was just the pure stress of what Loki was saying that kind of pushed him into it? Is Odinsleep something that always just happens randomly, or is it something Odin consciously decides to do?

I guess you can look at it like whenever Mystique turns into somebody else. She takes on all the physical characteristics of whoever she becomes but he true form is that of a blue mutant.

And as far as the Odinsleep, it's pretty much everything Loki told Thor while he was in held by SHIELD. All the stress Thor caused him like restarting a war with the Frost Giants, banishing Thor, plus he was already getting weak in the beginning of the movie, Laufey even mentions it. And I guess the stress caused by Loki finding out his true origins was the last straw. and Vartha above you already explains what happens during the Odinsleep

to the bold.

So this power, is it just something Odin himself as or is it given to whoever is king at the time?
