Only thing that concerns me about Gosling is that he's quite tall. Seeing a Lex who towers over Superman would be quite jarring.

today, he's a bit too old

Gosling is 6'1, which is barely taller than Cavill is

I still think he'd be good. He's in his 40's and Lex doesn't have to be near Superman's age. I'd actually prefer if they went away from the SV angle and Birthright angle of a Lex who's close to Clarks age. Given Synder is focussing more on talent then the age range , I think Crowe would be another great thesp to give the project legitamacy.

Something tells me that whoever is cast as Lex will be an established actor who will most likely be around Crowe's age anyway i.e. a name like Ralph Fiennes or Sean Penn who was rumored .

Crowe could be Luthor or Jor-El frankly.

Just don't know if they're willing to put up with him. He's a renowned pain-in-the-ass to work with.

Isn't Lex Older Than Superman Anyways. Superman Age's Slower. Maybe I'm Wrong.

I think Lex should be older than Superman, say around 10 years or so. That way Lex can be already established as scientist/corporate/politician (take your pick and mix)
In terms of physicality, around the same height sounds good, but not too much shorter or taller.

Whoever gets the role, I hope they actually go natural bald for the film. The edges of bald caps are hard to hide and would look bad on the large screen.

Whatever you might have to say about Spacey, he got that bit right.

Honestly, after watching him in Malcom in the Middle and Breaking Bad, he definitely deserves the praise he gets, however, I think he's best fit to replace Gary Oldman for Comm. Gordon in the Batman reboot; long before he was cast to voice him in the upcoming Batman dtv movie.
I'm curious to see how he'll do in the Total Recall remake.

Malcolm's dad WOULD make an awesome Gordon, come to think of it. Of those suggested in that post for Lex though, the only one I'd be down for is Patrick Wilson. If Snyder ever decides to pull a Nolan and use an actor 80 times in a row, it could happen.

Yeah, I like the idea of Wilson as Lex a lot.

Cranston would also be good, but I think he's a bit too old. I think he could work for Brainiac though because, depending on which version of Brainiac you're doing, you could use an older actor.

Billy Zane would make a great Lux Luthor in my opinion. I'm not opposed to Patrick Wilson either.

Javier Bardem suddenly has nothing to do with The Dark Tower starting up early next year (at the earliest) and Lord knows where Bond (2)3 stands at this point with him.

Why not him as Luthor?

He would need to lose the accent to play Luthor. But if he can, he'd be awesome.

It's just that a lot of us (myself included) think Zane is a poor actor and the only reason people want him for the role is because he is bald and it's easy to visualize him as Lex. So whenever someone new pops onto the board and says they want Zane, someone usually makes a joke that Billy Zane himself has created another account for the purposes of self-promotion.

Of course, these are all opinions, and to each his own.

But I'll tell you guys, this is one role where we really shouldn't be weighing looks too much. I tuned into the Smallville finale last night (first time I've watched that show in years) just for the hell of it. I had forgotten how good Rosenbaum was in the Lex role. Now, I'm not in any way saying he should play Lex in a movie - far from it - just making a point that even with a shaved head, Rosenbaum doesn't look like the ideal Lex (IMO). But that doesn't matter because he owns the hell out of that role. We need an actor that can bring that type of presence - only even more - to the role in the movies. I thought Spacey was going to be that guy back when SR came out, but alas, he totally phoned in that performance.

Exactly. Rosenbaum was a great Smallville-Lex. He was likeable and sympathetic in the beginning, which would make it that much more painful to see him turn bad and ultimately make him a better villain.

And a double-yes for getting an outta-the-box casting for Lex. Atypical casting often pays off for certain types of roles.
