I love the title, since the Thai Lietunant is the Angel of Vengeance, both protagonist and antagonist are sinners and only God Forgives man.

Again, I think it'll be called 'Only'.

By the end of the film, the movie will be titled "Only God Forgives" because 'Only' earned 'God's forgiveness'. (snark snark)

Why would they need to change the title? The term God isn't exclusive to one religious group.

@Morningstar It's a running gag because Hollywood are changing titles to be more simple or generic (i.e. John Carter):

The Wettest County is now Lawless.

Coogan's Trade is now 'Killing Them Softly.

'Welcome to People is now 'People like Us'.

'Nero Fiddled' is now 'To Rome with Love'.

Which led to my joke that the 'Carrie' remake will be called 'Ca' or 'The Girl'.

Only God Forgives is so cool of a title, I can see the studio changing it hypothetically because it's too cool for the public.

Another title that I love is 'The Place beyond the Pines' (with Ryan again) so I hope it doesn't change either!

I think the thing i love about Refn was summed up in some interview with Gosling i saw. He just perfectly marries "arty" sophistication, with fun. He doesn't think fun and entertainment should be separate from art.

I mean, just when you think his movies are creeping into long winded pretentiousness.... BAM... he hits you with this cartoony ultraviolence like someone having their intestines pulled out or their head stomped into mush. And it's like, am i wrong for enjoying that? lol

Yea same here. He takes his work seriously, he treats it like art. But he isn't afraid to have some fun with it and he is fully aware of that very fine line where art can drift into pretentiousness.
