Strange, I thought that was an official title as I've heard it referred to many times. Can't seem to find an original source. Maybe here?: http://grrm.livejournal.com/3797.html

A Dream of Spring is the title of book 7. Back in 2006 he announced it. From GRR Martin himself:

Quote:
Oh, and I've also come up with a new title for the seventh (and final, I hope, I hope, I hope) volume of the series -- A DREAM OF SPRING. I like the sound of that a lot better than A TIME FOR WOLVES, which has been my working title for book seven up to now, and I also think it gives a better sense of the book that I want to write. So -- A DANCE WITH DRAGONS, then THE WINDS OF WINTER, then A DREAM OF SPRING. Shouldn't take me long (hah).
http://grrm.livejournal.com/3797.html

Its also been discussed on countless fan sites and forums for the books. As of now, it is still the title for book 7.

... Until he decides to write 8 books instead, and changes the title of the 7th to "The Rage of Readers".

A Time For Wolves is kind of a cool name, though.

Yeah, A Dream of Spring just screams "light at the end of the tunnel". That title alone is pretty much the only thing preserving my hope that there will be a happy ending for at least someone.

Same. I'm really hoping the end of the series is coming sooner than later just to see these seperate strands of the story come together again. I want these characters who were only together at the beginning of the story (or not even that, in Dany's case) to find their way together or at least cross paths again and see what kind of toll the time apart has taken on them.

Characters are coming together in AFFC and ADWD. Slowly, but it is happening. I expect by the end of book 6 for the pieces to be set.

About A Dream of Spring, that title could be a misdirection. A Dream of Spring implies a happy dream of hope and spring. The two things the people of Westeros really really need. What happens when you wake up from a wonderful dream? You realize that you have to return to the harsh realities of the real world. Just saying, that title could point to something not so happy. It might look like its gonna be happy, but then they are subjected to some cold hard reality.

The happiest ending I am expecting is some small stability in Westeros leaving whoever is left alive to deal with the winter while dreaming of spring.

Winter kills them all is about the happiest ending I think you can realistically hope for.

Probably the best reason I have to be excited to get to those two, since alot of talk I've heard regarding those books has been generally lukewarm. At the same time, I don't want to rush, for fear that I'll get to the end of ADWD, want to read book 6, only to realize that it's not coming out for another year or so.

Well, I trudged through AFFC, and I'm about 100 pages into ADWD, and there has been zero character convergence. It's irritating, because that is what I'm most looking forward to, and its seems like instead, Martin keeps introducing new characters and plots (every Dorne chapter in AFFC was an epic trial of endurance and mental fortitude). But at the same time, I'm not really rushing to finish Dance, because I doubt TWOW will be coming out before 2015.

I wouldnt say zero. Most of our characters are heading to meet up with other main characters. And at the end of AFFC you find out what is going on with the Maesters and the part they are playing.
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
They are supressing any and all rumors of magic and activity of magic to stamp it out and move westeros to a more scientific society. And with Cersei remilitarizing the Faith of the Seven it seems likely there will be conflict between the two.
Overall AFFC moved a lot of pieces.

You have to remember that AFFC and most of ADWD is only half way through the story, and these books are around a thousand pages each. The story still has a thousand or more pages before the end game really begins. This story isn't a sprint it is a marathon.

Is the October release date for the mass market paperback for ADWD official?

My entire set is in paperback too. I've read the new one from the library but waiting to buy the paperback. Some authors you love, but not buy the hardcover first day love.

I have the first four books in paperback, and ADWD in hardcover. But I want to get the first four in hardcover too. I don't know why.

I wish GRRM would just tell us what happens like he told the TV show creators. I can't wait 20 more years to read the final pages of this series. And from the looks of it, A Dream of Spring won't be the last book anyway. I mean, the dude is already releasing random chapters on the net.

Those hardbacks are too damn big. I've never understood making hardbacks so large. Bloomsbury' s harry potter hardbacks are the perfect size hardbacks imo. A little bit bigger than the scholastic paperbacks. Not too big not too small.

Iron Throne by Marc Simonetti

Now that is an Iron Throne. That actually looks like what the books describe it as. A thing that would cut you. This guy does a lot of illustrations based on GRRM's work.

Three Eyed Crow (This one is a spoiler if you haven't read ADWD.)

I added his illustration of the three eyed crow from ADWD. One of my favorite parts of ADWD.
