Because of my username, I feel compelled to vote for the 3rd option.
I wish TSSM went on longer ![]() Outside of the DCAU, I'd rank it in the top 3 with Avatar and Gargoyles. |

I like both equally too. I grew up on BTAS and Spectacular Spider-Man is the best animated incarnation of Spidey.

I see this debate has left the SSM forums.I think if SSM had continued it could have reached the heights of BTAS.But as it stands BTAS takes it.

SSM has better pacing and ongoing story telling, but i think BTAS had a better soundtrack atleast. Both shows had great animation for their time, good designs and voice casts.

I vote for the series where the characters didn't look like Fisher-Price toys.

Batman TAS is the greatest of all time.
SSM was fantastic too though. Pisses me off it never got a decent run.

SSM is the Marvel animated series of all time.
B: TAS is the best comicbook based animated series period.

I was wondering just how true that was so I made the thread here in an impartial forum.

Spiderman by a small margin, mainly because it was consistently great with no crap episodes like BTAS, had brilliahnt arcs, and had slightly better dialogue. I like the music for BTAS better, and it was more revolutionary, but side-by-side, especially considering Spiderman got less than half of BTAS' episodes, I think it wins out.

Look, I prefer Spidey as a character and SSM had a lot of potential. If it had run for 5-6 seasons with the planned DTV movies, it could have become comparable to BTAS. But it ran for 2 years and Disney (stupidly) killed it. When you couple in the fact that the character designs were always pretty crappy, it's no contest.
BTAS had 5 or 6 seasons when you factor in the new shows with glorious design, voice acting and music. It also spawned a wonderful sequel that is the best "old man Batman" story ever, IMO, Batman Beyond. And it spawned several films, three of which were really good (MOTP, WF and ROTJ), the first of which was actually theatrical. It in all honesty is probably the best rendition of the Batman mythos in any medium. Period. (though the small amount of killing allowed does hold it back some). BTAS, in short.

I think because BTAS was around beforehand I developed a stronger connection to it. If I was to go back now and watch those shows the results might be different . Certain things in BTAS still stay in my mind and I barely remember Spider-man so it's hard to judge but I think Batman was better.

I'm actually going to remove my Nostalgia Goggles and my blinding bias and say that The Spectacular Spider-Man is the better show. Why?
Due to some meddling with a former editor, B:TAS was stuck with some truly bad episodes that were meant to pander to the younger viewers. For every "Two-Face" or "Heart of Ice", there was "I've Got Batman in my Basement" or "Cat Scratch Fever". Characterization was also inconsistent. Characters with impressive first showings like Two-Face and Clayface were reduced to common crooks with gimmicks over time, and Killer Croc kept being flip-flopped between being a cunning adversary and an idiot. And while the designs were stylized to allow better animation, it still came up looking sloppy in some episodes. Contrast that with SSM, which had more consistent quality in episodes, better characterization and development for both major and minor characters, and though having even more simplified designs, had smooth animation all the way through. And the whole quantity=quality argument that some of you are having is completely unfair. It's not SSM's fault that it got screwed over by company politics. Warner Brothers is just far more competent and faithful to its properties and employees, and allowed B:TAS to flourish and develop. If B:TAS was shortened by 26 episodes, would you guys still consider it the superior show? It sounds like I hate B:TAS. I do not. It was, and still is, a critical part of my childhood, and it is a show that played a major role in revamping the animation industry in the 90's. But the show itself, as influential as it is, is far from perfect, and it has several flaws that would not allow it to last today's standards. SSM is just the strongest show to me.

batman. Spider-man is my favorite comic character and the show was great. But Batman was amazing. had the best voice acting of any animated comic book adaptation and a wonderful soundtrack with some truely great writing that even infulence or went into the comics. It also produced the by far one of the best batman movies of all time in Mask of the Phantasm.
I think Spider-man was great and could have kept getting better. However I was not a fan of some of the character designs and there was some bad voice acting as well. I enjoyed it, but to me the storytelling only puts it a bit amove the 90s spider-man cartoon. I do think if Avengers keeps up its run it may be better the spec. spider-man, but batman TAS is hard to touch.

It's obvious who I voted for. But wouldn't it make more sense to match up Batman: The Animated Series with Spider-Man: The Animated series? There are a lot of young people on this site, that likely haven't seen the Spectacular Spider-Man.
