I just saw a TV spot here in the UK and it didn't seem like any I'd seen online before. It didn't start with 'Marvel' or the X-Men logo, just the exchange between Erik and Charles. It showed Havok surrounded by armed marines and it Magneto pushing a submarine onto the beach.

What Could Have Been: X-Men: First Class.
In 2006, Zak Penn, writer of X-Men: The Last Stand, was asked by Fox to write a Spin-Off of the franchise called New Mutants and focused on Rogue, Iceman, Kitty Pryde, Colossus, Angel and Jubilee from the original X-trilogy. During the project's development, came the idea of making a prequel detailing the origin of the X-Men, based on Marvel Comics' "X-Men: First Class" series. Gossip Girl's Josh Schwartz was hired to write a Script based on the original line-up consisted of Professor X, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm and Beast. The movie was set to be produced based on the public's reception of David S. Goyer's X-Men Origins: Magneto. However, the project was canceled after X-Men Origins: Wolverine underperformed. Bryan Singer, director of X-Men and X2 was invited by Fox to return. He accepted, and decide to rewrite Schwartz's Script, merging Goyer's pitch with his own ideas of a 60's-set thriller starring the X-Men. Jamie Moss gave Singer's idea a written form, later revised by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, from Thor. However, due to his prior commitment with Jack, the Giant-Killer, Singer couldn't direct the movie. So, he convinced Kick-Ass' Matthew Vaughn, who had previously been set to direct X3, but dropped out due to the rushed schedule, to replace him, as Fox had given both complete creative control over the film. Vaughn and Singer decided to change the line-up originally planned, in order to use smaller characters that'd allow them to explore more the movie's possibilities. Jean Grey and Storm were ditched. Beast and, at one point, Cyclops remained. However, the later was ultimately cut, after several rumors that Aaron Johnson could be in the running to play him. Deciding to focus on the origin of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and the friendship-turned-rivalry of Professor X and Magneto, the duo chose Charles Xavier, Erik Lensherr, Raven Darkholme/Mystique, Hank McCoy/Beast, Alex Summers/Havok, Sean Cassidy/Banshee, Armando Muñoz/Darwin and Angel Salvadore as the X-Men and the Hellfire Club, formed by Sebastian Shaw, Emma Frost, Azazel and Riptide, as the villains. James McAvoy was quickly chosen to play Xavier, whereas Michael Fassbender, having recently lost the role of Hal Jordan in Green Lantern to Ryan Reynolds, had to choose between Lensherr and Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard from Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man. He opted for the former and Rhys Ifans took the role of Connors. Before Jennifer Lawrence was chosen to play Mystique, Amber Heard was in the running. ![]() Benjamin Walker was Fox's initial choice to play Beast, but was ultimately dropped for looking too old. ![]() Before Nicholas Hoult was chosen, Singer advocated for Taylor Lautner to take the role. ![]() Before Rose Byrne, who also lost a role in Green Lantern - The one of Carol Ferris, to Blake Lively - became Moira McTaggert, Rosamund Pike was a person of interest to play her. ![]() Much like Benjamin Walker, Alice Eve actually signed on to play Emma Frost, but was let gone by the production for unknown reasons and replaced by January Jones. ![]() For the role of Sebastian Shaw, there were two contenders: Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth. However, The King's Speech praise drove Firth away in Fox's eyes, and the role went to Bacon. ![]() Lucas Till, Caleb Landry-Jones, Edi Gathegi, Zoe Kravitz, Jason Flemyng and Alex Rodriguez were the number one choices for the roles of Havok, Banshee, Darwin, Angel, Azazel and Riptide from the get-go. Other mutants previously rumored to appear in the movie include Mr. Sinister, Wolverine, Sabretooth, Toad, Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch. |

I wont lie, I was intially disappointed in this movie when singer revealed that it would take place in the 60's, replacing cyke, storm, and jean with mainly 2nd tier characters.
But everything since the teaser trailer has looked fantastic. And now these "reviews" are praising the movie. I cant believe it took 8 years, but Fox is finally giving the fans another x-film that is great. The best part about this is that it shows that you dont need Wolverine to make a great X-Men movie. I just hope the BO does well. |

No wonder vaughn has been given so much control. When Singer returned Fox gave control over the film to him,and he when he couldn't direct It choose Vaughn.Who probally wouldn't have gotten the job without Singer In control.
I suspect early on Singer was going to spawn several years.Which IS why we heard talk of auditioning actors for Cyclops and jean. And with Vaughn working with him they decded to focus sorely on early 1960's. I am so glad the producer of gossip Girl didn't write the finished First Class. New Mutants could have worked but the best thing was the collorbation between Singer and vaughn. |

Besides Taylor Lautner (I'm going to pretend this whole thing about Singer wanting him in the movie/calling him his friend never happened), the above list of actors are all great. Alice Eve would have probably been wonderful as Emma. Benjamin Walker would have been a great choice for Beast (and I would've actually preferred his beefier build since that was what Hank was like in the comics). And LMAO at the GL casting people for going with Ryan Reynolds over Michael Fassbender. No disrespect to Reynolds, but he is not even close to Fassbender's league. |

It's all good. Everybody is not gonna like everything about it. I'm just happy that the general consensus is that it's a great movie. |

Michael Fassbender is great, but I think that he'd be too intense/brooding for Hal Jordan. He's perfect for Magneto, though.
