X3 had nice special effects, but i dont think the action was that great, because so much of it seemed just silly. (Magneto ripping up the whole GGB to transport like 30 mutants to an island, then he just flings cars while pyro sets them on fire...seriously?) If you can't understand or connect to the action, it doesn't matter if it looks cooler to me. X2's action felt more story-driven, as opposed to technology-driven. Although, the one thing that did piss me off in x2 was when they stormed Weapon X, and singer chose to show Mystique looking at a computer instead of Magneto, Wolverine, Jean, Storm, and Nightcrawler kickin ass...c'mon, how do ya pass that up??

I really wish i could get excited for this movie.
But nothing I've seen has made me want to go see this.
That bad taste is too strong.
unfortunately gunna have to wait for it on netflix
Yea I loved X2 but that always got me too. It's like Magneto is the master of magnetism, he's always been a one man army. He could have just pulled the base out of the mountain if he wanted to. Then you've got Storm who can control the freakin weather, and Jean Grey who has great telekinetic powers...and they're all like "There's only one way in and if we go that way they'll flood the spill way!! They'll flood it! What are we going to do!!??"

I think the CGI looks right where it should be.

No one expects WETA or ILM caliber effects, but with that said, from what I've seen, especially in the tv spots, the CG looks good.

ESPN Sportscenter has the logo printed all over the place.

Critic's consensus on this film is what I'm counting on before I place a ticket. It looks to be good though.

Some of the sub shots look weak, especially the shot of one crashing onto the beach. Hank's big feet looked pretty awful too, and the diamond effect on Emma hasn't convinced me yet either.

I like how special effects that were groundbreaking in 2007 are considered awful in 2011. Maybe I'm a realist, but I've gotten the feeling that people ask way too much of CGI nowadays, and I understand why sometimes. I just don't like bothering with it even when it's well known that the special effects that we see in the tv spots and clips are never the finished product.

This film clearly has the best special effects yet.

Since the effects are being done by WETA, I think there is every chance of WETA level effects, don't you? What planet are you on?

It sounds like you are pre-judging, based on the assumption it isn't WETA.

It doesn't seem fair, but it totally seems right. The Fast series is totally mainstream blockbuster. I wasn't surprised at all at the money it received, especially after the fourth movie.
Since everyone else in the known universe (including me) has said Fast Five was a surprisingly big success for a fifth film in a long-running, mindless popcorn action franchise, I don't think I'm the one who's crazy...

Speaking of 2007, Hank's feet have that awful rubbery texture of I Am Legend's universally hated digitial monsters.

I'm not too worried about the effects as they won't make or break the film for me, but they certainly haven't helped me sell the film to my mrs yet. She moaned about it instantly after I showed her the trailer and totally ruined my geeky enjoyment.

So what effects have you liked/loved in X-Men and other superhero movies so far?

The only thing iffy to me was Emma Frost but everything else looks fine to me. Its not amazing like Avatar or King Kong but they are certainly passable and far from bad SFX.

Yeah, it's called Singer watering down the characters, because he sucks at Superhero films. Everyone knows my distaste for Singer lol.

Fast Five was awesome. One of the best. In fact I think they all were good in their own right. I haven't seen Fast 4, but I'm sure it was okay at the very least.

Teleportation is always a good effect. Heck Star Trek, and Charm's teleportation looks good lol. I have to disagree about the claws though. Although, I got geeked when they first appeared, I was kind of like "WTF?" why is it black inside his skin and not pink or red. I think they goofed on that.

iirc, alot of fans were pissed about how much gambit and deadpool were in the trailers/tv spots/marketing and how little their roles were in the actual movie

Not much of an assumption. More like, I totally forgot they were working on this. I remember now....

Just totally ignore that statement. Instead, let me re-phrase:

I don't think anyone's expecting that the CGI in this movie will blow anyone's minds like it did in Avatar, but from what I've seen already, it's pretty damn good and I have no complaints...and even if I did, they wouldn't be totally fair to make at this point.

I think the Avatar CGI was wonderful when seen with the stunning 3D option, it made for a mesmering experience. But some of it isn't quite as convincing (in my view) when seen in 'normal' 2D.

Half the problem with 3D is that some people can't suspend disbelief and as soon as they know it can't be real, or suspect it must be CGI, then they don't buy into it because they can't convince themselves to accept it and go with the flow.

There have been many instances where people have complained about CGI being crap when it's not actually CGI! It has already happened with First Class, when someone slated the 'CGI' Beast on the jet even though that is not a computer-generated insertion but the actor with make-up/prosthetics.

The effects are marvelous and as X-Maniac said WETA is working on it.

The flying that people are going to see in this movie by a human is going to be unprecedented. The Banshee flight scene was done with brand new tech and it shows.

The lead matte background designer is from WETA and that much is clear as is the texture artist. The compositing seems top notch too.

Don't know what's "bad" about any of it. Everything I've seen and know about this film would suggest otherwise.

Digital Domain along with other smaller houses are also doing a great job. Matthew Vaughn has done a masterful job in employing the right set of people.

Oh man I wish they converted it into 3D even if the 3D is not good. It would attract more money.
