Every single actor was wasted in Green Lantern, including the ****ing lead.

But what happened to Bassett was kinda insulting. She was great with what she had to work... but then she just... vanished with no real reason in the third act. Did she die? Did she go on vacation? WTF?

Yes indeed, her best storyline was when she had no powers at all!

But she does have a great relevance to the story.

Here is a woman who came from a place where she protected humans who worshipped her and agreed instead to protect humans who hated her.

That sort of conflict would be perfect to include - as she is an extreme example of why the X-Men do what they do.

Same with Nightcrawler, according to the comics where he was recruited after being attacked by a mob.

As much as people say Cyclops, as far as I'm concerned Storm was the most mishandled character the entire series.

Even though the fate of Cyclops was horrible, at least he was in character whenever he was on screen. What they did creatively with Storm was just... I don't know but it wasn't Storm.

Halle didn't help matters any. But the character was flawed from the word go.

Didn't Halle Berry go on a bit of an ego trip when the first movie took off? I've always found her kind of annoying and would have preferred to see Bassett in the role.

Based on what?

I think its safe to say most people would prefer Bassett in the role.

Just the way she handles herself (wut). I dunno.

She definitely has great relevance. I've never understood why, if they were just going to have Storm do what little she does in X-Men, they couldn't write her better (or at least more in line with the strong woman she is). Her exchange with Senator Kelly could have played out very differently, without detracting from the movie.

They got a lot of surface things right (look, uniform, powers, etc.), but her characterization could have been much better.

I saw Green Lantern, its one of the worst comic-book movies ever!!!

Angela Bassett had the eyes and voice of Storm but she doesn't age nicely. She looks older than Hugh Jackman.

How old is Angela Bassett? I saw a photo from a couple years ago (from some sort of awards show or event from 2007-2008) and she looked great, still a good Storm IMO from what I saw......has she really aged badly?

If we're talking Green Lantern I think its just her appearance in the film...that hair?!

No look at her neck in Green Lantern.

Angella Bassett is almost 53 years old and looks fine for her age. She probably looks better than most of us will, when we're that old. I think her days as a potential Storm candidate, however, have passed.

Why are people not understanding the purpose of this thread? it's not to say that she should be Storm now that ship has sailed. I'm just saying it would have been cool for her to have been in the original X-Men movie is all.

I understood it. I hope if Storm is ever recast, that they look for an actress who is more in the mold of Angela Bassett than Halle Berry.

Bassett looks amazing, whether plus 50 or not. Yeah, I don't see her in the running for Storm. If the character ever does return, she might get a Halle cameo in a Vaughn flick or they'll just get a younger actress. From what little I had heard about her involvement/non-involvement with the X-franchise previously and on this thread, I don't blame her for not accepting the Storm role. Why go into something so underdeveloped and ill-defined?

Even Halle, who I think was chosen more for her looks and popularity than her acting IMO, got fed up with the limited character development they provided Storm. I don't see it as much of an excuse if they can find intriguing story arcs for almost all the X-Men except Storm in the films. To their credit they tried something with Nightcrawler, I suppose, but that never panned out. I think Halle's disatisfaction resulted in greater screentime in X3, but I don't know how much that really benefitted her as a character. Ultimately I think Halle served her purpose, a popular, gorgeous black actress to help market the franchise get its diversity points and help its marketing push. Storm was never intended to be a significant factor in the X-films, but more important to their marketing, their branding.

It would be great to see Angela return as Waller, though if they ever do a Black Panther movie would love to see her as the Queen Mother.

Angela Bassett was approached when the script was different. Same as when Sarah Michelle Gellar was approached for Rogue. These characters became younger, so Storm could be lead by Cyclops. Can You imagine Angela Bassett following Cyclops order ?

Also Rogue became younger and the integral part of the first movie. Therefore different generation in the X-Academy itself !

^For the most part Storms involvement in the script didn't change very much from script to script now Rogue is another story but all in all the only major changes was making Jean take over Beast's scientist/doctor role and Rogue getting almagalmed with Kitty/Jubilee.

and ALSO budget constraints kept from making her as strong as her comicbook counterpart, hence a factor in the 'not knowing what to do with her". in one of the early X-men scripts they found a way to cut budget by having Beast, who was in that draft, get injured and unable to come with the others to Liberty Island
