That's true in a functional sense, but he who pays the piper calls the tune. Just ask Ed Norton.

Besides Smallville

1. Confusing the hell out of general audiences
2. Having lame TV actors
3. Just milking the Superman character for a cheap buck
4. And last but not least having a low buget for special effects

Thats why I have not sat down to this day and seen 1 full espisode. The whole Smallville idea was stupid.

Don't worry you will see special effects better than in SR and that will be damn good!. The airplane sequence in SR is the most exciting stunning piece of cinema ever in a comic film IMO. It surpassed anything in Spiderman, the Hulk, FF4, Iron Man & I thought Thor was great with a good story. But as for speciall effects thats 1 area I'm not concerned about. Synder will spend the money there. I loved 300, everything look great.

Directors can have a lot of power but it depends on what type.

There are two types of directors: Work for hires and the creative types.

Edward can boss around Louis Letterier because he's a work for hire but you'll never see Norton pick on David Fincher. Fincher would eat Norton alive.

That was so good I could cry. It made me jelous of the guy for being able to fly around like that

I really really would love to see a scene like this.

I think they tried to do it in SR, but instead of having him patrolling through the skies, they had him floating out in space 'listening' for trouble... which i suppose made for a nice scene, but i'd rather have him soaring through the clouds than floating with the stars.

I think they need to show that Superman loves to fly, it needs to look natural to him like he is in complete control.

From 1:49-2:10, you can see the flight rig for Banshee. Don't watch anything else if you don't want to be spoiled...

That was great! Extra points for using the song from The Snowman.

I did that the first time I had seen a video like that. I figure it wouldn't really be worth it other than just making people look like their skydiving in different places.

Funnilly enough, I'm casting my mind back to before SR - I'm sure there was a pic released of what was quite possibly the single largest green-screen I'd seen up to that point and people on here were gushing at the prospect of the flying shots that it woudl give us.

I completely agree on both counts.

I always loved this little scene on LnC where Lois and Clark play the 'if you could have one superpower, what would it be?' game. Lois says invisible, and Clark thinks about it and says 'Flying'. It really is something he loves doing, and who wouldn't!

And if you found out you could do something that extraordinary, you'd definitely have found ways of practicing and trying out different things. By the time he's Superman he should be an expert at all kinds of flying

Anyone remember the wideshot in S:TM when Supes drops from the window of the Dailp Planet upon hearing Lex's sub-sonic message, changes and then arcs up and flies into the sky?

That kind of scope was awesome in its day. Hell, it still is. If they could give us an updated shot like that it would be cool as hell.

The first time I had seena video of one of those machines to practice skydiving, I imagined it being used for some movie with green screen. But, they can't really use it for anything other than having people look like they're falling rather than flying. Though, I wonder if they did something similar for that Honda commercial. If so, I guess I thought wrong.

Yeah, the Batman's from this video. Kane helped me make it in the Avatar thread in the Fan Art forum...

That would be cool. I remember once seeing some comic scan of Clark jumping out of a window with his body kinda like Spider when we see him swing with his legs tucked in except, Clark was ripping off his shirt of course. Ever since I saw that, I've always wanted to see something like that in live-action.

they need to use traditional effects at all costs and use CGI as an absolute last resort.

I'll see that and raise you - watch the clip below and imagine that the Death Destroyer is Warworld and the Millenium Falcon is Superman:-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwz_fZPt6Ic

That's something I've always wanted to see in live-action ever since reading DC Comics Presents #28 (1980) and then ROTJ in 1983.

That is possible. I just really hope that when I see Superman fly, I can get the feeling of how awesome and fun it would be for real. I don't want some CGI cartoon flying around.

I too love that guy's cowl. I think it looks a lot like Jim Lee's Batman.

I agree with most posts here, just figured I'd give a little love to SR. The plane scene and the "save Metropolis" stuff near the end when he's flying through the sewer and also street level (while he's on his back laser-ing broken glass) was pretty cool stuff in terms of flight.
