OUCHIE.

However, this comment could be pretty subjective based on expectations (maybe he thought she was supposed to be a major character), but still, ouch nonetheless especially for the Frost fans.

I really only expect a lot out of Charles and Erik. The movie really hinges on the two of them.

She Is probally the equivlent of X-Men/X2 Mystique. The sexy right hand woman to
Shaw(the way Bryan SInger had Mystique to Magneto) with a few more lines but her screen time Is around to what Mystique had with X-Men/X2.

She was significant but one could make the argument that she didn't have a huge amount to do...It still depends on how you look at it, which is why I said it could be a subjective statement.

In stead of trying to make the elements from the comic books fit the real world, like the first few films did, I felt like Vaughn made the real world fit the comic books with this installment.
I love this and think it's one of the advantages of a period piece superhero film. Most younger audience members really don't know for sure what it really was like before they were born and only have a sense of it that they've gleamed from the likes of period movies and such. This makes tweaking the past easier than doing it to the present.

The movie makes an attempt to connect to the previous films, which is nice to see but really X-Men: First Class is so good it almost doesn’t need it. I know it’s supposed to be a prequel but I’d rather think of it as a re-boot.
This is how I've decided to approach this film since first seeing the teaser.

Didn't expect all the "better than X2" talk in some of these previews/reviews but any way you slice it, this is great news!!!!!

In the days leading up to this, I'm watching all of Matthew Vaughn's movies and the X-Men trilogy.

In fact, I'm gonna watch LAYER CAKE in a few hours.

If you haven't seen Vaughn's first movie, Layer Cake, the movie that pretty much started Daniel Craig's movie career, I'd highly recommend it!

anyone else notice how much diversity there is in Vaughn's films look wise

i dont think there is a film of his that looks like another

layer cake - crime drama
stardust - sci fi/fantasy
kick ass - gritty super hero realism
x men - bond like 1960's period look

but back to reviews- man i cant wait for this the comparisons to star trek and even casino royale has me so pumped

I'd intended to post the HitFix review, but it's already up.

I was pleasantly surprised after reading it and some of the other reviews housed here. I'd pretty much written this off as an afterthought, to be caught via rental or via sneak-in after I've finished a movie I actually paid for (because that's always fun ). The last few trailers I saw were intriguing, but I've been down that road before only to find regret at the end, but I wasn't counting on such a favorable response and description. I like what I'm hearing here.

Ever since Bryan Singer's Interview last year when he revealed the 1960's setting I have
always approached this as Prequel to just X-Men and X2.And with talk on If this leads to trilogy of going Into 1970's and 1980's you get sense of them wanting a trilogy to lead
Into Singer's films. And In a way it Is a reboot too. They are trying to destroy The Last
Stand and Wolverine. That Is ignoring half of the previous X films.

I watched X-Men this past week. And I am about to watch X2.I am considering getting
Stardust and Kick ass again from Netflex to watch before I see First Class.

In some ways talk of surprises remind me of X2.Jean grey's sacrifice and the lead Into Phoenix was total surprises.

I just Hope If this does well Fox doesn't waste time signing SInger and Matthew Vaughn for a sequel.

Not surprised at all by the good reviews. Back when X3 was coming out even though I was excited I could help shake the feeling that it was going to be a crappy movie. I've gotten the complete opposite feeling for everything I've seen/heard about this film since day 1. I cannot wait until June 3rd!

There's one user on IMDB, Darwinskid, claiming that all of these positive reviews are obviously from paid Fox plants, because Tom Rothman would never let them make a good X-Men film.

Well, back around the X3-XMWO era, there were quite a number of people here who believed the exact same thing.

It's just something that people decide to hold to and honestly believe so that they can put a face and a name to anything and everything they don't like about 20th Century FOX in general. In reality, there usually no real truth to it, but for those kinds of people, I guess it puts their mind at ease in some way. Sure, Rothman has done some questionable things in the past, but people are really looking at things in a really ridiculous way and it's going to take more than this movie to turn those skeptics around.

Heck, I've been spreading the tv spots, trailers, and all of the early reviews around the net all day but there are still a lot of people who still won't be giving this movie a chance. They've totally given up on the series, which is, in my opinion, could be understandable albeit juvenile and ignorant.
