As for the reviews. I think it's great that it's officially certified, but we all shouldn't get too excited for it's score just yet. When the other hundred or so reviews come in, that will be the true test to see if it holds up well. Thor started out great and after about a hundred reviews or so, it dropped quite a bit. I still think it's going to keep a high score though.
oh i never said it bothered me, actually i was pretty happy when i saw him dressed like that.
However, i think they could have done a better job picturing the sixties, i admitt that everything we see on screen (clothes, hairs, cars, sets) feel very "sixties" but the film itself doesn't. It's no big deal but i think it would have been cooler if the filmakers had made a movie "you could almost believe it was shot in the sixties" (well maybe not for the special effects, because it would have looked like some old star trek or doctor who serials, which is not really what modern movie audience is expecting, but, for example, there is a french movie called "OSS 117, Rio ne répond plus", which is a James Bond parody, and for this movie, set in 1967, the filmmakers have perfectly recreated the feel of the movies of the sixties, they used the same cameras and film, the same kind of music....)

The comment about Fox hedging it's bets on this film is a really interesting one because that's the vibe I've been getting from Vaughn this whole time.

I think he really sees First Class as a complete reboot of the franchise like Batman Begins but if it doesn't work, you can make it the prequel to Singer films...if you choose.

Like Superman Returns, it's a little bit of both. Just depends on the viewer.

Nice review. Again the comments about the fx though, hmmm.

The f/x could probably do with a bit more work in places, but they are nowhere near 'Wolverine' bad.

Well obviously I haven't seen the film yet so can't really comment but I for one thought Emma's diamond fx looked fantastic in trailers and that seems to be what some reviewers have complained about fx wise.

That looked pretty fine to me.

The most notable points I reckon were...

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Magento maneuovering the coin around and between his fingers near the beginning.

and...

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Young Magneto going crazy at the beginning, manipulating all the metal objects and instruments around him (notably in the white room filled with metal instruments).

Those were the only ones that stuck out for me, off the top off my head. There's probably more, but can't think of any of them at the moment.

It really is a great film, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I saw it and enjoyed it as any other film, and not specifically as an 'X-Men/Superhero' film.

Great movie, certainly one of the best X-Men ones.

Fassbender is simply great, what an actor! and the screenplay delved into some really mature stuff. The troubled friendship of Magneto and Charles brings a new depth into superhero movies. And it is played with true mastery by the young actors.

The only real downside I can remember (the changes they had to do in the original material are absolutely understandable, and they work) is the same old caricature of communist Russian military.

Everything else was handled with passion and talent. It is more than a popcorn flick for the summer: it is a tale of shattered dreams and loss of innocence, and at what price. Very well-done.

Hmm. Well as long as they're not distractingly bad.

Not exactly a review but here's a tweet from one of the few movie critics who's opinions I value:

I saw nothing wrong with the diamond FX at all. Nothing.

Well, in Vaughn's defense, if some of the visual effects aren't up to snuff, he only had 10 months to get this film done. That's basically no time on a film of this size. I mean, the turnaround on this film is crazy and yet he has delivered on a film that rivals the Dark Knight.

I'll give him a mulligan on a few shoddy visual effects.

I agree. For the time Vaughn had on this film, he has done a marvellous job.

Just got back from seeing it. Loved it. Thought it was the best film from the X-movies. Didn't know this film was leaving out X3 and Wolverine out of the history, but I'm glad it did. Flick made more sense continuity wise that way.

Azazel was one of my favorites. They made the teleportation scenes in X2 look pathetic in comparison to this.

The film didn't feel crowded, or no character felt pointless.

One of the best scenes

Wolverine telling Erik and Charles to **** off

Watched the film earlier today and first of all let me say .......*****ING AWESOME.

It was strange though, (have a feeling I may not be the only one who thought this) it DID leave me wanting more but not necessarily another film. To me, it felt like an extended pilot for a tv show.....but a *****ing awesome, grand scale tv show at that!!

And regarding the fx there were only two moments where I thought they faltered

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
1. When Emma's restrained by Erik to the bed, the bent metal seemed too cgi
2. When Erik wrapped the russian soldiers in barbed wire

oh and was it me or the first time fuzzy!Beast spoke his dialogue wasn't in sync with lips

None of this took away from the sequences though, this is probably me nitpicking at best though

Just back from seeing the movie and I have to say that it was great! I didn't have high hopes going in but it quickly won me over.

This movie is infinitely better than X-men 3 and Wolverine and I'd definitely prefer seeing a sequel to First Class over seeing X-men 4 (though being me I'd prefer to see both )

I agree, the FX were a little off in those scenes, but they didn't take me out of the film.

It's odd, i never noticed 'off' FX in either of those scenes. There was only moment where i thought the CGI could be a little better and I'm not saying what it is, because we each seem to have our own nitpicks and niggles. That seems odd as it's normally the same stuff that stands out.

Exactly and honestly I thought Emma's diamond form was amazing, just wish her clothes didn't change too but watcha gonna do. Also...

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
realised in the final scene that Emma's gets diamond high heels -- made me laugh, but I definitely want a gif of her running across the table in the russia scene. It could've been clearer too that Angel spits acid not a ball of fire though. But OMG riptide's hurricanes looked awesome, made me miss Storm haha
