It all has to do with the energy he absorbs. He can channel it different ways, one of it being keeping himself young.

If they do a sequel I hope they reveal Mr Sinister had a hand in helping Shaw out.

I love it when people miss things in a movie.

I've always interpreted it in the earlier films that mutants as a whole have longer life-spans because of their powers.

When you think about Magneto, he was a little kid in the beginning of X-Men and First Class (around 11/12). Yet the films are set in the not-too-distant future and even as old men him and Xavier are powerful despite their age.

Most of the complaints and questions in here are by people who don't watch the movie.

this could just be the way I interpreted it (an I might be way off based, here)

but, I was kinda under the impression that he didn't start out as a mutant (when we first see him as dr. schmidt) but, used what he learned from experimenting on young Erik, to give himself his abilities

Did he look older in the concentration camp, or was it all a moustache?

He looked a lot older, not just the stauche but he had grey hair and wrinkled features. Probably on purpose, i'm sure he tried in some way to disguise his appearance knowing nazis would be hated by the world.

He looked older, it wasn't just you. Maybe in the 18 years he eventually learned that he could use his powers to reverse his age.

if he were a mutant the whole time... he could be potentially a very old mutant (an could have been around for decades even...) at the point that we see him as Dr. Schmidt's he may of not had used with powers in a while (that rejuvenates him, and keeps him young) and let himself naturally age abit...

but, throw coming across young Erik, and realizing a new generation of mutants have come... he starts to plan his raise, and takes on the new identity of Shaw, to put it in to play... an spends 15 years or so, rebuilding his empire, and recruiting others to his cause (to a guy potentially as old as him, 15-20, is nothing, in the grand scheme of things)

My thinking is, Shaw's energy powers are completely flexible in that if he goes too long without absorbing and storing a great amount of power, he'll start to show his age. Maybe he actually expels this energy from time to time willingly in order to appear older than he really is, depending on the situation.

It may seem arbitrary for Shaw to take the age of his middle aged self as we see him in the movie, but it's not that big of a deal.

I think we've seen enough of the experimenting on mutants angle.

I still think the Sentinels are long overdue and the outcome of XMFC really do lend itself to it, especially with Erik/Magneto infiltrating the damn Pentagon to break out Frost.

Would the sentinels work in the 70's? It would take extremely good writing that is why i doubt they can pull it off. The technological and historical ramifications would really hard to work with.

As for for prior posts.

Sinister is awesome - so I disagree with anyone who thinks he's lame. But mutant experimentation is over done.

I think introducing aliens would just be an easy say out and bad for the series.

Someone brought up an excellent theme in using omega red since the cold war is upon us. The only downside is I'd hate an omega red story without Pietro.

I think apocalypse might be the most achievable considering the circumstances.

Hey, this is the X-Men world. It doesn't have to be totally consistent with the technology. Besides, they appeared in the comics in the mid 60's anyway...I'm sure that there are ways around the technology gap.

I think the bigger issue Is the historical and continuity ramnifications.
The mutants are just being discovered in X1... That's in the 90's...
How do you justify to the public 50 ft search and destroy/capture bots in the 70's for an unknown menace? Plus the storyline. Really this is an x4 story.

The mutants aren't being just discovered in X1. It's moreso that they are just now being made public to society.

Here in First Class, NO ONE really knew who they were, not even most governments up until that point. It's easy to assume that such things were well kept hidden over time.

and the Sentinels? It's all about how they are presented in the story. They could be brought in and still be kept quiet away from the public in some way.

Maybe they will go the G.I. Joe route and make the sentinels humans with powered suits that give the wearers super strength, speed, and invulnerability to psychic attacks. I could see that happening before 50ft robots. I could also see 7ft-10ft tall robots being used, but still the technology gap between 60s-90/2K would be a problem.

Unless we say Beast builds a prototype of a sentinel and the government steals it and reprograms it. Why would Beast build a sentinel you ask??? Well, because basically he is an inventor now and builds things just for the explanation of things existence; blackbird, cerebro, Banshee's wings/suit, Havok's circle thingy, and mutant enhancers. Yep he can build the sentinels.

Mr. Sinister is like one of the most well-known X-Men villains along with Magneto and Apocalypse.

beast - ages slowly (probably due to mysitque's blood)
moira - ages slowly? (in X3 she looks in her 30's) maybe in a sequel they'll explain that.
