You have to buy the new Console to get the Controller. You can not buy it separately

As Optimums Prime would say

Ebay

Or buy another Console. But as of now the new Console only reads one new Controller while the other players uses the original Wii Remotes

They only mentioned Wii games being backwards compatible so I'm guessing it will not be with Gamecube games.

Little disappointed about 1 tablet per console. However, I rarely ever play multiplayer games (local or online) since a lot of my friends just aren't into games that much anymore. I'm probably 2 video game generations from having to worry about kids so that's not a problem either.

I'm sure a lot of MP games like Pikmin, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, any FPS, etc. will have multiple controller options like they do now so I don't think it will be a big problem there.

Yeah that doesn't bother me at all, I don't remember the last time I played a game on the same console with a friend or two. It's always online.

The one tablet thing kinda sucks. But then again, I've barely touched my Wii. I played it death with Mario Bros and then left it for ages until Donkey Kong. Oddly enought I left the Wii to go back to playing my SNES with my friends.

I'm not really interested in the WiiU. I recently bought a NES which I'm FAR more excited about than this.

Hey everyone, have a friend at E3 who got to test drive this thing a bit. Posted this in the E3 thread as well. Thought you guys might want to hear it too:

He said that it's more powerful the 360 and ps3 graphically. The shading/lighting/textures are all close to modern day PC standards. He also said the most of the commotion initially from E3 people about it was about the pretty shoddy announcement overall. However, once people got to have an actual look at it.....they're very impressed.
He said the 'bird' demo was the most jaw dropping in a graphical sense. The Zelda demo was very pretty visually and using the controller does seem make the experience a lot more intuitive in Zelda. The controller weighs about the same as a DSlite or PSP, but feels very sturdy.

Reggie confirmed that the Wii U is not backwards compatible with the GameCube

Hopefully since there is still time to finalize things, Nintendo will listen and change some things around such as allowing more than one Wii-Pad to be used and backwards compatibility with the GameCube.

I would rather they just put out some HD remasters of GC games.

Are Gamecube controllers going to be compatible with this? I know a great portion still play Mario Kart and Smash Brothers with those things.

^No, it's not THAT high tech.

The fact that it doesn't support multi touch pretty much means it won't be super expensive. Also, a friend of mine was a producer of Nintendo's show and sent me a message about the WiiU after he got to test it out.

Hey, just so you know, the Wii U plays much better than u think. This is a pretty damn cool system. I will be interested to see what happens, but there is a ton of potential in what I played.

I don't mind that it's not BC with GC games. The PS2 was (I believe) the first system that had BC, we survived without it, we can do it again. Besides, at some point you're going to have to not support a previous generation.

I REALLY hope they make a wireless version of the Classic Controller Pro (which is basically the WiiU-Pad without the screen) AND a wireless GC controller for the Wii U. Or at the very least a USB adapter to still use the GC controller.

I'm loving the idea behind this system, it has so much potential it's not even funny.

It's still really early, so most of the information about the system we don't know, but I can't wait to find out.

See, the only way this works is if Nintendo keeps coming up with new innovative ways to use the thing, along with third party makers. It's got potential for a LOT of franchises, not just being used as a HUD or whatever. I liked that Wii Sports golf thing where you're viewing the ball on the ground and seeing the green on the tv.

E3 2011: Wii U Ditches Friend Codes
Nintendo's Wii U will have an account based online service.
UK, June 9, 2011

At Tuesday's press conference, Nintendo were frustratingly coy when it came to details of Wii U's online service. But it seems that the new system will scrap the Wii's friend codes in favour of an account-based system, more akin to Xbox Live and PSN.

Speaking to MTV, Ubisoft producer Adrian Blunt confirmed that users will make individual accounts on the Wii U; when asked would it be "Equivalent to a gamertag on Xbox Live," Blunt replied,"Yeah, exactly."

Discussing Ghost Recon Online, Blunt also said that it would be much easier to connect with other users on Wii U, with friend codes being a thing of the past.

Excellent news. Hopefully that means they'll have better servers too. Definitely a step in the right direction nonetheless.
