Default Could Wolverine have a major role in an XFC sequel?

Here's the conundrum: XFC is a great movie, and a good prequel/reboot (pre-boot?!?) of the X-men film franchise. Yet, if it were to continue canonically, it would be without the most marketable and popular character in the X-men universe, film or comics, and that is Wolverine.

But of course we know Wolverine could not be in the XFC timeline, aside from those great 10 seconds in XFC itself. Not if we play by the "unofficial rule" of avoiding inconsistencies with the original trilogy, unless absolutely necessary.

BUT I see a way around that, that can give us Wolverine and the awesome Hugh Jackman a meatier role in any sequel. The only "rule" is that Wolverine cannot meet Charles, Scott, Storm, Jean, Rogue or Beast in any meaningful capacity. He won't remember them, but they will remember him. Notice I do not say Magneto or Mystique; it is ambiguous IMO whether they "know" Wolverine or not in the original trilogy. Villains are inscrutable that way.

Back to the original point. Wolverine cannot meet Charles, but Charles is now paraplegic, and is likely not going to be in the field of combat, which is Wolverine's thing. So conceivably, they could be in the same film but never meet. Furthermore, Scott, Storm and Jean are still kids right now. And XFC took the X-men global, the movie itself depicts at least 5 different countries; Wolverine could be doing something in the jungles of Vietnam without meeting Hank.

Therefore, I think we have a strong case for being able to include Wolverine in a sequel. Imagine if the early X-men, say Banshee, Havok and Domino (my own addition) get dropped behind enemy lines on a special mission. They meet a grizzled warrior with a fast healing ability, and they team up to win one for the good guys. Meanwhile, Charles, Beast and any X-babies (Storm, for example) are fighting a separate battle in the States, or England, or somewhere.

I think this could work. It would be a great way of bringing the best of both X-men timelines together.

I hope so, but if it was a slam-dunk, this other forum wouldn't still be so active with debate.

It sounds a bit forced. I'd rather them distance themselves from the previous trilogy in the sequel to First Class. Wolverine had three X-Men films where he was centre stage, then a solo film, and sometime soon he'll get a sequel. There's plenty of other characters they can utilise without shoehorning someone in just to get bums in seats. Do you know how many films I've watched that've made a sh**load of money and didn't have Wolverine in?

Lots and lots.

Please no, I liked the characters they chose to include. I like the character Wolverine and I like Hugh Jackman as an actor, but no, I hope not.

I doubt they would do it. But they'd probably want a big-name actor in there like (as i said before) Johnny Depp as Sinister, if they can get someone like that.

I think that if First Class is viewed as an underperforming movie when the final total comes in, then they'll move on to The Wolverine, before Jackman ages too much, and crank that out. He's a box office draw, so it should do okay.

Then they'll probably try to do an X4, though all the main cast (Stewart, McKellen, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, even Jackman) are getting on a bit now. Some might not want to come back.

And some one want them back, including me. But I'm highly biased because First Class is my favourite and I think it'd be a shame to not follow through with a sequel.

of course he could be in an XFC sequel, but he SHOULD NOT be - keep him the hell away from these movies - you do NOT have to have Wolverine in an X-Men movie for it to be good...

The same can be said about the opposite.

Having Wolverine in an X-Men movie could actually make it better or just as good.

My problem is that I really, really like XFC, and want to see sequels. And yet, that makes three existing timelines for the X-men franchise currently: the XFC timeline, the Wolverine timeline, and the X-men 1-3 timeline.

I don't see Fox being able to continue the franchise in all three time periods without confusing the non-comic audience. So why not find a way to get their big draw into the best segment of the franchise?

First Off It remains premature to talk sequel due to the underperformance of First Class.
First Class Is eather Prequel to X-Men/X2 or X-Men/X2/Last Stand.There Isn't a
seperate Wolverine timeline.X-Men Origins;Wolverine Is being Ignored. The Wolverine
will be film that stands on It's own that takes place after Wolverine loses memory
but before the Events of X-Men.Deadpool completly Ignore Wolverine. The script has
appearance by one X-Men character and reference to another.X4 Is most likely to be next full X Men film Inless Fox surprises people.Patrick Stewart,Halle Berry,Anna Paquin,
and James Marsden have all since the Last Stand made Intrest In doing X4.The question would be who all from other films Is willing to come back.

Since this is all still so unclear, I am calling XFC a pre-boot.

I am tired of Jackman as Wolverine, he already was the center of three X-Men movies and his spin-off...it is time for other characters to get some spotlight and First Class has great chraracters so Wolverine isn't needed.

"Getting on a bit" will only be relevant to McKellen and Stewart, and maybe Jackman if he doesn't want to bulk up for the 6th time. Ageing shouldn't affect any of the other cast.

Definitely not. It would rip a hole in the series' continuity worse than X-men Origins: Wolverine. Also, Wheels and Magnet-head are supposed to be the focus of this new trilogy. Wolvie has gotten plenty of time in the spotlight already.

I guess so. I wonder how many of the cast would come back. They'd probably have to approach them all informally before the script was written, just to make sure... McKellen's tied up for the next two years anyway, doing The Hobbit.

Which would you prefer, Electrix? X4/X5 or more First Class? Or both? Do you think Wolverine should be in a First Class sequel?

To be fair McKellen will only be doing the Hobbit for more like 7 months intermittently, the thing that could stop him from doing it would be his theater commitments, maybe if they find a location right next to where he is doing his performances and work around that.

Wolverine should be in it only if they go the soviet route in a FC sequel, if not then save him for X4&X5. Or an FC/X4 all in one movie.

The more X-Men movies the better, especially now Singer and Vaughn will likely be in charge. I'd be interested in seeing X4/X5 but having both the original trilogy and a First Class trilogy running at the same time may be a bit much. There's already an over-saturation of comic-book movies as it is, but i'd probably want a First Class sequel more than X4 (although we haven't heard what the treatment involves, it could be epic).

Wolverine should stick with his own films from now on (unless he's part of X4). I loved his cameo in First Class, but he simply isn't needed. Fox needs to move the franchise forward without Wolverine because Hugh Jackman won't be playing him for much longer. The X-Men meet Wolverine in X1, and that's how it should stay.

I really don't have much faith in a Wolvie solo movie. In all honesty I think he works better in an ensemble cast. However, they can cut back on the screen time. It would be very hard seeing anyone else as Wolvie now.

Hmmm, Havoc, Banshee and Domino get sent into a mission deep into Soviet Russia, meet up with a certain crazy Canadian and they have to team up to take down the best tentacled villain next to Alfred Molina. I like it.
