well according to Box Office Mojo, the film has already made back its budget, plus at least 60 million more, so that's somewhat of a good thing.

And I'm not sure if it even matters at all, but I had gone to see the film again tonight, and I was impressed and surprised that the Theater room that i was in was still crowded and 95% full, so I'm hoping that it's happening elsewhere as well.

The film will have easily made it to 100 million domestically by Friday, and hopefully, it'll make it to at least 140 million domestically by the end of its theatrical run.

I'm pretty confident that the film will make it to 300 million. And given that BB didn't have such a large box office run, but still got a sequel due to its great word of mouth, I'm sure that the film will get a sequel since unlike SR, the film has been better received than the last 2 X Men films and SR as well.

I also don't see why anyone would be so willing to throw a franchise away to continue from start instead of just pushing forward from the end.

It WILL continue, if the X4/X5 mentioned by Lauren Shuler Donner ends up being made.

But the series had become very unwieldy - a huge cast that was tough to get back together at the same time, and who had become more expensive as the films became more popular... The fans were screaming for more of their favourite characters to be added but you can't keep adding characters without existing ones being sidelined or removed.

That was why they opted for prequels and spin-offs and why, at the time, The Last Stand was intended to be the final film in the series.

We don't yet know what the X4/X5 entails. It's likely to be set a long time after X3.

I hope X4 does happen. There is a lot of potential there despite TLS. I hate the uncertainty, can't wait to hear what the next plans are.

Looking at the numbers it seems the x-men films have never really taken hugely over seas.

It's very unlikely that Singer will continue the franchise after the events of "The Last Stand". He did it with Superman Returns, he will not have a problem doing it with the next X-Men. It's a fact that the script of the TLS is way to inferior to the rest (not counting the Wolverine film at all as a legitimate tie-in). In TLS some things happened that can't be redeemed that easily. Yes, there's always possibility to return Xavier, Jean and Cyclops, but then the series will lose all credibility by the general audience. Even "The First Class" ignored some key elements that happened in TLS film, and by now acts as a prequel to X-Men and X2. Singer may very well name his film X3, as a direct continuation to his X2, whereas TLS was named just X-Men: The Last Stand. It and Wolverine may act as independent films, like Electra did in the past.
I hope that Matthew Vaughn continues with the Second and Third Class, while Bryan Singer starts making his X3 and X4 simultaneously.

Well...unlike 5 years ago most of the original X-men cast have not done much with their careers...film wise. Halle's career is all but gone. She's going to be doing a TV show on HBO. Anna won't come back because she's on True blood....and besides Ellen Page and Hugh, none of the other main cast members are that active in film. Not even Patrick Stewart.

Halle's career isn't gone. She took 3 years off to have a child, and she's filming Cloud Atlas with Tom Hanks and Hugo Weaving later this year. She's not as 'hot' (or expensive) as she was post-Oscar 2002-2006, but she's doing well considering she's an actress of colour approaching 45 (the HBO show is likely because studios don't create meaty roles for 'older women', where as TV does).

Anna Paquin would probably return if True Blood scheduling allowed. Alexander Skarsgεrd recently shot Battleship and he's also part of True Blood.

Ellen Page may or may not return if asked (although she may be under contract). She seems to be doing lots of small interesting roles, so returning to X-Men after 7+ years might not interest her.

Patrick Stewart is doing stage work, which probably suits him as he's 71. He'd probably come back for X4 though if asked.

Anna will come back. True Blood will run its course soon. She even appeared on Scream 4 !!!

You forgot Sir Ian ? James Marsden, Famke Janssen, Ben Foster and Aaron Stanford regularly star in the movies. Not always high profile, but they are active. I agree that Fox will have less trouble getting its stars back, except may be Sir Ian since he will be doing The Hobbit for the next 2 years also.

Anna Paquin has started being open to return to X-Men.The Changes are better her returning than Ellen Page.I have said before If X4/X5 Involves adapting the Days of
Future past storyline I see them Giving Rogue the major role Kitty Pryde had In the
Comic storyline.Patrick Stewart deceded to focus Stage work although he has made
It clear recently he would be very willing to return for another X-Men film.

If Bryan Singer directs X4 I can see It Ignoring The Last Stand and be setting a few years after X2.I doudt any new cast members added to the Last Stand would be brought back.If Beast Is In It considering It's very unlikely a first Class sequel will be made Nicholas Hoult could play Beast again.X4 defently would not be the Singer version of the Phoenix storyline.

I honestly don't see how Jean or Cyclops could return. Cyclops died off screen, so I suppose they could bring him back if they wanted too, but too much happened with Jean to bring her back. She 'killed' two X-Men and a bunch of people. Wolverine stabbed her, so she's dead. The Phoenix could live on, but that wouldn't require Famke.

True Blood will not run it's course soon. That show has over 5 million viewers and there are 11-12 books so that show will have another 4 seasons at least if they continue to pull in 3-5 million people a season. But, Anna could come back for X4. It wouldn't be a lead role anyways so she wouldn't need to be on set for 3 months.

Also...this is the box office thread.

If they Ignore The Last Stand Cyclops can be In It.james marsden has said he Is up for returning. But as for Jean forget it.In that sceniro they probally wouldn't even mention
Jean. They are not going to want to do anything to call attention back to the Last
Stand.Even If they don't Ignore Last Stand they are not going to want to call attention
to anything Involving Phoenix or Cure.

The only chance there would be of Famke Janssen In another X-Men film would be If they used Mr. Sinster as a villian and have Famke as Jean's clone madalane Pryor as part
of plan of Sinster's.And that Is a slim chance of even that happening.

i hope we get more prequels, because realisticly X4 will probably be set 20 years after the last stand or something like that and be a future story, because they clearly gave up with the original trilogy ages ago and want something fresh to work with

but remembering that FOX dont make Movies just for fans, they make them for general audiance also

so chances cyclops wouldnt be back in x4 because i doubt the general audiance care about this character enough, and the end credit scene with xavier will be tough to explain, and i doubt we will get singers version of x3 because thats like admitting the last stand was a bad movie and FOX are hardly gonna do that

so i think alot of fans have to much of a high hope about an x4

Well Warners allowed Singer to create a Superman film that followed the original Donner Film's continuity in a loose way while ignoring the events of the latter films all completely.

If anything, they could just say that something happened in the events of the new Modern Day X Men film that resulted in a new timeline happening, that way X3 would have still happened but for another timeline while the events of the so called X4 could be singer's version of what he would have wanted to do after X2.

It's basically like how they did with the Sarah Conner Chronicles and the new Star Trek. They don't ignore the events of previous films, but in the same time, they're able to give a new explanation as to why these new events from a earlier point in their lives are happening without having any effect on what had happened in a alternate universe/timeline.

If First Class ends with a better worldwide boxoffice than X1, Fox will do another one.

Im sure they didnt expect it to surpass Wolverine, so for them +$300M would be a good start of a new franchise/trilogy.

Given on how MUCH BETTER and word of mouth FC has been getting, I'm actually hopeful that it may either reach Wolverine's box office earnings, if not surpass it since it's somewhat of a universal notion that the quality in storytelling for FC is far superior than what Origins gave fans and audiences alike.

If it surpass Wolverine I'll be sooooo pleased.

But I have my doubts right now.

Let's see what happens after this week.

My bet is $270M worldwide.

Anyone wants to start one bet between us?

It's a good movie that deserved to do well. First class actually held up quite respectably-- in all it was a good weekend for well made summer movies.
