Really really messed up over ther in the GL boards not surprised to see it talked about here a bit lol, I feel for them too. I'm more of a Marvel guy, but I am a fan of GL so it's a real bummer the movie may end up being garbage.

.....Oh well!..... I feel better now!

I like Reynolds but I'm not sure I would have cast him in this role. The reviews don't seem to be blaming him too much though. Damn, this was an important film for the DC Universe ex Bats & Supes. I wanted JL one day

as much as people WANT to hate and use TF2 as the example of failure, it was the biggest film released that year and one of the biggest ever, with a high fan rating and a studio willing to shell out a crap load of dough for an immediate sequel.

if you must compare GL to a similar failure where the source material demanded greatness(unlike TF)
look to The Last Air Bender.

-effects

I feel sorry for those guys. Imagine this place if Avengers started getting similar reviews. It would be like X3 again for me, feeling like years of fervent anticipation wasted.

If you look closely or zoom in with a photo editor you CAN see pants by his waist right over Caps head's and there IS purple pants under Cap's arm, you can see the tattered ends.

That would undoubtedly be one of, if not THE biggest movie disappointments of my life and there'd be total anarchy. People would LOSE THEIR MINDS! Dogs and cats living together, yadda yadda...

But yeah that really sucks. It's early but it sounds like if the movie's success is as nonexistent as it is in these early reviews it could be the only GL movie in a long time. At least the Avengers could fall back on their solo journeys.

Believe me, I'm doing that, and...

I can now see the pants on the leg that is visible just beneath Thor's cloak, to the right of Cap. (Our right.)

But the area just above Cap's head, between Hawkeye's torso and Thor's cloak, and underneath Hawkeye's bow... First: that is not his "waist" (I refer you to where his belly-button is located on his six-pack abs, above that); and second, it's all green. I'm not seeing the greyish fabric that it looks like the pants leg is made of.

All I can figure is that what we're seeing there is his knee and shin, viewed sort of straight-on. Since it seems pretty likely (as you theorized in another thread, Vartha) that all these figures are on separate layers, so they can be shifted slightly for layout purposes, I would LOVE to see the Hulk-only layer. It would help a lot of people avoid that "he's naked" first impression. It's... unfortunate. Or hilarious, take your pick.

I agree. I feel really sorry for the GL fans. Thor had some negative reviews, but nothing as scathing as GL is receiving from the critics.

As summer garbage goes, The Green Lantern can’t go fast enough. Even in the brainless world of cinematic comic books gone bad, it’s as bad as it gets—a dumb, pointless, ugly, moronic and incomprehensible jumble of botched effects, technical blunders, and cluttered chaos. Oh yes. It is also—did I forget to mention?—boring.

If Avengers gets reviews like that we'll be sobbing for 300 threads.

Agreed. Sad to see GL getting blasted in the reviews (20% on RT atm? ), but after hearing WB put an embargo on the press it seemed likely that was coming. Will make up my own mind on whether the critics are justified or not when I see it all the same.

If Avengers were to get the same reception... Aye, there would be much wailing and gnashing of teeth round these parts as well. Let's all hope that won't be a concern.

Agreed.

I have alot of faith in Joss Whedon though, tbh. From what we've been hearing from the cast, he's been doing a fantastic job.

Yeah, I heard ya. What I found it interesting is that although Joss Whedon isn't a big-time movie director like GL's director is (he directed Goldeneye, Mask of Zorro, Casino Royale), Whedon has written comics like Astonishing X-Men and understands comics better. I hope this experience along with his years of working on other mediums like TV shows will help him in the Avengers. Because Marvel has bridged so many movies toward this one, I really hope for their sake that the Avengers will become the blockbuster we all want and more. It'll feel like the bottom of the 9th inning of the World Series and your team needs a homerun to win it, and it's the last out. At least, that's the way I feel about it.
