He didn't insult the jews, he spoke out against circumcision and everyone started *****ing about how that's antisemitic.

Yeah, I mean it's not like he said " The jews are the cause of all the world's problems." like another Australian born actor.

I'm really excited about this casting. Crowe is a top notch actor, and I hate the fact that we're getting more "Pirates" films, and not more "Master and Commander" films. It's an infinitely superior franchise.

And Crowe's remarks were not anti-Semitic, and frankly, I don't think he has anything to apologize for.

speaking of Master....where in the hell is my new He-Man and The Masters of The Universe movie??!?! Not that He-Man has anything to do with Superman...I just want one...and one that is somewhat faithful to the cartoon...e.i a green talking tiger and the dual identity and Zoar

It's not surprising considering Nolan said that he emulated Donner's casting method on the Batman Begins DVD. I wonder if I've unleashed hell by noting Nolan is a Donner fan too...

Just read the news. Still havent found out if it's become legit.

Not jumping up and down with joy on this casting choice, but I'll get used to it. Crowe is awesome no doubt, but he doesnt really strike me as a noble scientist from another world. And he doesnt look a thing like Cavill in more than one way. But I guess if you blend in some Connie Nielsen you might be there.

I dont like the similarities between Crowe and Brando either. Both are too big for their own good and both are a pain in the ass to work with. And I'm guessing Crowe too couldnt care less about the character of Jor-El. Not that it matters, but some respect for the source material would be preferable.

2 potentially good things though. Maybe Crowe will make for a less appeasing Jor-El, resulting in a more direct and aggressive Clark/Superman.

I see a slight similarity, but maybe this is just me as an artist seeing the similarities in every human being:

Btw, Crowe as scientist you say?

Yeah, there's A Beautiful Mind, of course. But hes still doesnt have that distinguised and noble look that one would imagine a scientist from an advanced alien race would have. Hard to explain. But yeah, probably stupid nitpicking. There's always something wrong...

Wow, I just got back from work, and hot damn, did they finally get Russell Crowe in a superhero movie? I know he's talked about turning down several of these things before. Of course, it probably helps that this particular role was made famous by Marlon Brando, lol. Also, I very much considered his role in Body of Lies to be a supporting one, so that aspect of the role doesn't shock me as much.

Anyway, he's a terrific actor, imo, so it's wonderful to have him on board. And while I wouldn't say there's too much physical resemblance, something about Henry's facial expressions have quite often reminded me of Crowe's. Man, I just can't get over how awesome the casting for this movie has been.

Just like Costner,I really didn't expect them to ever consider being in super hero/comic-book movies and so I never really tried to imagined them in big roles such as Jonathan Kent or especially Jor-El.....But I am a Crowe fan and I think he could do Jor-El justice as much or even beyond Brando!!!!

I think that's what's got me so buzzin about it though. Actors who would usually turn down a superhero movie are taking big roles in this one - it tells me two things 1. That the actors have as much faith in Nolan and co making this a success as we do 2. That whatever the idea/script is, it's something everyone can relate to/understand, not just us fans.

He also played a scientist in "The Insider". For the record I also dig this casting.

totally on point here. I am not a fan of Crowe's temper tantrums. He's a great actor but could use some humility.

So this could be it... The talent in this movie is crazy. Break a leg guys and gals of Man of Steel.

If I were Clark I'd feel pretty damn badass to have Russell Crowe as my first father and Kevin Costner as my second.

Yeah, I'm loving it too. It's the right way to go. Cavill surrounded by all these terrific actor is incredible.

And we still got Perry White, Lex and Jimmy to cast. I can't wait to see who they get for them. Especially Lex. If Dustin Hoffman is White then I will be excited as hell.
