They're not insulting Shuster.

If Shuster was alive, I bet he'd embrace the changes like Stan Lee and others.

You're the one who's offended.

Stan Lee embraces the changes because of $. He's a salesman, not an artist. Jack Kirby was the artist.

This film is being made to exploit Siegel and Shuster.

I'm just not seeing any acknowledgement of their vision in these costume designs. I don't see Joe Shuster, I don't see pulp science-fiction, I don't see Alex Raymond. What I see is the current trend-Game of Thrones, etc. Just like Brando's costume followed the trend of it's time.

It IS much better than Brando's costume. It also sort of reminds me of the Superman: Earth One costume.

I wish Jor-El's costume was more like the DCnU Jor-El costume; but I also like the MOS Superman costume more than the DCnU one. Except the Springsteen costume. It doesn't even count AS a costume.

If you can buy most of it at the GAP, it's not a superhero costume IMO.

So nobody can insult Shuster, but you can insult Stan Lee?

Why insulting nobody costume designers is bad but insulting Joe Shuster is okay is beyond me, but tradition sucks, blah blah.
I don't see where anyone suggested it was okay to insult Joe Shusters designs by calling them panties either.

ALL derogatory comments should be refrained from. Saying you like or dislike something is fine. Putting a label on something that is meant to be detrimental, is unfair to anyone who is a fan of it.

The idea that it's okay to knock Snyder and his team but knocking Shuster is an entirely different story and blasphemous, shows how little you respect anyone's opinion than your own.

There are Snyder fans in this world. There are Shuster fans in this world.
There are Donner fans in this world.

One set of fans is not more important, nor more 'right' than the others. And they all have the right to be treated with respect, whether you personally think so or not.

Oh and FYI, I don't think Jor-el's suit looks anything like a dress. I also don't think Roman warriors wore skirts, or that Luke Skywalker was wearing a dressing gown.

But that's just me.

I'm sorry, you can invent anything you want to back up your personal opinions? What's your base to say that Stan Lee is not an artist but only a salesman?

This. Stan may be a salesmen NOW, but hes also 90 years old. If were 90 years old and co created more enduring icons then any other comic creator, I'd be a salesman too and just enjoy the money I get from comic adaptions.

In trying to defend Kirby and Ditko, people forget that it was STAN that wanted to see more "Shakespearan" elements in comic books, and was the one to elevate comic storytelling.

Stan never did anything of note before Kirby came back to Marvel and never did anything of importance after Jack left. His biggest project without Kirby or Ditko was Silver Surfer, and it bombed. Stan was a great writer, but he was not to writing what Kirby was to art. No comics writer is, although Gardner Fox is probably the closest.

I can put Stan in my top ten comics writers of all time. But Kirby is so transcendent, it's almost wrong to put other artists IN a top ten with him.

I love Golden Age Jor-El and Donnerverse Jor-El the most myself. But different takes are always interesting. Would be so boring if every adaptation went the same direction. That's probably why when it comes to comics and superheroes I love one-shot stories the most.

I love these characters so much because they are so rich, adaptable and diverse they can be put and used in so many different contexts.

But yeah I am not a fan of the Jor-El costume in MOS as seen in these spy-pics right now. Let's see how it works in context and different photo, cause it's not horrible or anything, just odd.

But I'm still stoked for Crowe as Jor-El. He has that kind of authoritarian presence I love to see in Jor-El. Also adding a roughness to the character.

Of course I have no clue. I don't pretend I know what Shuster thinks the way Kuro does. That's the whole point and that's why I said "I bet".

Only when you don't agree with the opposite point of view.

I thought this was a discussion board. People discuss. they don't have to agree. Right? Trolling seems to be a very subjective term around here. And used to shut people down who's minds don't change to a particular side.

I don't like Jor-el's outfit. I think it looks silly and over done. That makes me a troll?

It's not the difference of opinion that people consider trolling. It's the cliche fanboy condescension and arrogance that accompanies those differing opinions.

And can't that charge be leveled on the other side too?? I mentioned the traditional Jor-el suit and I got the "it would look good in a sitcom" remark from some.....

That's not condescending? Don't get me me wrong. That doesnt bother me at all. I like a nice harmless give and take. But now you cant even say what you feel without trolling???

I can only speak for myself but I don't disrespect without being disrespected.

It definitely goes both ways, but consistent behavior from one person can be considered trolling.

Re-posting the same message multiple times about how Jon Hamm should have been cast (and including pictures of him as "proof") long after Russell Crowe had secured the role (and specifically in the thread dedicated to him and his being cast) would make one a troll.

Not until you've repeated it fifty times, labeled it a dress, insinuated that everyone who likes it has pissed on Schuster's memory and can't possibly be a true Superman fan, and insulted Stan Lee to boot.

It was labeled a dress by yahoo news-just an example of what I have maintained: regardless of what they do, the mainstream media will always mock comics, superheroes and superhero films.

I feel that the original creators intentions should be the very first consideration when these movies are made. I think that they should be as close to the source material as possible, and with today's effects, they can be as faithful as they wish to be. I don't buy that the classic Superman is outdated, or will not appeal to today's audiences, and just as importantly
I feel it would make for a more unique and better movie.

Disagree all you want, but that is my position, I am consistent with it and I don't hold that point of view just because I want to be an ass.
