That's stretching it. The origins of most modern languages, especially English, are pretty well documented with very clear roots.

It's a far easier concept to grasp that an alien language is presented in English for the sake of the viewer.

I think it's believable, in the context of the "Thor" movie, that the gods did affect human culture, including language, since the movie explains that the gods were here before but humans had forgotten.

Forgotten? As in "s--t Jerry, who were the chaps that gave us the language we speak? Where's a pen when you need one?!"

I'm actually quite fascinated with gods/aliens affecting human culture. But it has to be presented in an intriguing way. So I can buy that theory if it were plausible in that they were "disguised" as one of us. Otherwise, if they were openly walking around as the superpowered beings they were, it would have been documented in some form.

But in the context of the movie "Thor" (which includes such things as Frost Giants, by the way), humanity has forgotten about the gods entirely. The gods had fallen into myth and legend even after being involved in a war on Earth and being worshipped by humans. So it's feasible in that context that the gods influenced the early English language, since English has influence from many other ancient languages already.

I disagree, in a movie like this I don't think it's stretching it at all.

English is an absorbing language, it's roots are Germanic but a larger percentage of what we speak is derivative of other languages, roughly 30% of it French due to France ruling England for about 300 years, it's also picked up bits and pieces of most other West European languages. It's very much a stretch to say we weren't the first to speak it.

Animals have vocal language. Language is a natural skill for cooperation.

Dream come true for me. As soon as I saw Thor I hoped Krypton could be half as incredibly well portrayed as that.

Obviously it'll be a little different, but so far it looks incredible

One of things I love most in Thor was the sweeping shots of the lanscape of Asgard... and you just know Snyder's going to kick ass with that

These photos of Jor-El & Zod are very interesting. I was especially intrigued by Jor-El's photo, specifically the set which evoked neo-medieval feel. Indeed, I remember an interview by costume designer Michael Wilkinson:

Wilkinson explained that since they created a "neo-medieval" back story for Krypton (which included the creation of a new language), it made sense to utilize the suit design as part of the mythology. "Everyone on Krypton wears this suit," he suggested. Using ZBrush and rapid prototyping, Wilkinson came up the blue/gray color and chain-linked look. "It has function and purpose and a logic to this fantastical world," he added.

Just based on this small peek, Krypton looks beautiful. I'm entirely fine with a sci-fi look here. I think Man of Steel will really convey the tragic and wondrous 'we achieved wonders which will be long forgotten' line which was uttered in Superman 78.
