Best Film Display of Powers?

I think it has been really.

the powers looked great. only thing i was not liking was the way they made some constructs. they just shot an energy ball and then the construct would be made. i was hoping it would show the light trail from the ring then disconnect after it was made. only thing i saw that was like this was when hal got thrown by sinestro or hal threw the satellite. i kinda wanted to see the tether then after the construct was built it could go away. but yea the powers in this was awesome, not sure if i would say best. i still think mjolnir came out looking like a behemoth. but really the powers of all the characters are so different i really couldn't say which is "best".

blade was really cool. his strength look very good and watching him jump out the window in the first movie was so cool.


nightcrawler's bamf was epic in the opening scene. seeing cyclops' optic blast for the first time was epic. really all the x-men's powers in 2000 looked so cool.

yeah like i said all the powers are so different that it would seem hard to pick the best. it is all based on personal taste.

The display of powers in this film was great, but some others are great as well. I think my all time favorite displays of powers are Spidey's in raimi's trilogy, magneto in the x-men trilogy and first class, and Thor.

Nightcrawlers attack on the White House and Azazel's attack on the CIA base are the best display of powers on film in my opinion.

The best construct in this film was Kilowog's star. Which was shown prior to the film being released

The brief Sinestro/Hal exchange on Oa. I was loving the back and forth.

I think they wanted the constructs to look realistic. Had they still been connected to his ring (like they show it in the comics and the cartoons) it would have definitely looked silly. As it turned out, that still was the case to some of the critics.

Vaughn's approach to powers in First Class was creative? LOL. What a load of crap.

Honestly, I loved First Class but one of the reasons wasn't because of the creative powers.

Don't be silly. The scene where Azazel starts dropping people from the sky is stunning.

And Magneto catching all those missiles and shells? Brilliant.

Vaughn knows how to film an action scene.

You don't think the Azazel scene was amazing? It was everything any fan of comic book movies would want.

It had build up and tension: Ominous thuds on the ground. We don't know what it is, then the kids look out of the window then BLAM! a body splats on the ground.

Visually stunning: Then it pans out and we see Azazel grabbing people, porting up to the sky (one shot right in front of the moon) and dropping them.

Genuine danger: A well liked and to that point important character dies, so it gives the impression anyone could have been iced.

I'm sorry, I don't understand how that scene is anything but amazing.

Green Lantern, for all it's CGI, just has nothing that compares. There was no tension, there was no real sense of danger. There was no emotional investment. And when there is no tension or emotional investment in action scenes, no matter how good looking they are, they might as well be a fireworks display in your back garden.

the powers themselves weren't all that creative at this point. It's vaughs imagination when it comes to scene ideas that I'm referring to.

A teleporting assassin vs the CIA could be handled in many different ways. Same with vaughn's other films too. And after what he said about inception I just think he's got a good head on his shoulders and with a budget he can really be imaginative which I a plus.

I'd love to see him on spidey.

Lantern is a property that can greatly benefit from imaginative scene development. The last thing you want is a movie about a guy with a ring that's powered by the imagination, in the hands of a filmmaker with none.

...I've yet to see the film so I can't really comment further. I'll just say I'd rather see a Grant Morrison than Geoff Johns when it comes to this matter.

Martin Campbell specializes in old school stunt driven action scenes. I mean, nobody can dislike the unforgettable chase scene in Casino Royale; possibly the greatest action set piece of the 21st century (I like the last battle in Avatar too).

Ah yea of course, we've all seen teleporters a few times by now.

But it was the way the scene was built up then shot. Really cool. When you realise what Azazel is up to, it's a true "holy ****!" moment.

Green Lantern didn't have any thing that even approaches "holy ****".

As to the best display of powers, I would go with Superman Returns. The use of heat vision.

Oh man Children of Men has some amazing action scenes. That one long shot of where Theo is making his way into the building whilst all hell is breaking loose, then finds the baby, comes out and everyone just stops fighting and stands there open mouthed is one of the best scenes i've ever seen in a film.

Children of Men had fantastic set pieces, but that foot chase in Casino Royale really was that good.

I find that Vaughn using the powers for other things than fighting was pretty creative. Like Emma cutting the ice or the glass with her diamond, Magneto magnetizing himself to the jet as it crashed so that him and Charles wouldn't get hurt, and Banshee using his voice as a radar. Those are creative uses for powers.

Exactly. I loved that it wasn't all about offense and defense with their powers. They were actually used as tools. Now I'm wondering what the entire series would have been like with Vaughn as director.

In that regard, yeah, X-men: First class definitely has the more impressive use of powers but GL was no slouch. I honestly expected him to make a big bed or trampoline when he caught Waller but actual water and then flushing her out was a surprise. Not to mention the whole number with the fuel tank and the gattling gun as well as being tethered to two jets to make an escape. Wishing the giant fists were giant boxing gloves but that's just me.

I thought the jets construct was pretty clever.

i did say only stay connected to see them come from the ring. then the light trail would disappear when the construct is complete. as it is now it's only an energy ball that gets shot out and then forms a construct.
