personally i love that marvel has and is aiming to continue a series of standalone films that each are a different genre, yet still manage to culminate in a team up picture that works.

i love that we have this smorgasbord; as a film buff it makes me happy face.

Personally, I'm interested to see how much of the Mandarin's backstory they'll reveal here since it'll probably be different from what it is the comics.

Its probably overanalyzing, but I had the same thought as someone else had a few pages back that the dogtags seen make me think maybe he could be a disgruntled veteran.

To be fair, I think you'd have that problem even if the rings were still alien tech.

I could see something where maybe he also injects himself with the Extremis virus towards the end.

He was never a communist in the comics. He was trying to cause World War III to destroy both capitalism and communism. He's a social darwinist and sort of an anarchist who wants a Mad Max/Thundarr The Barbarian world where everyone is at war with everyone.

In the comics he can chi-amp his strength to Iron Man levels, that's why he can take Iron Man's punches and do things like kick a dent in Iron Man's helmet and break Iron Man's arm with a palm-strike. In other words, they solved the durability issue with, if not exactly magic, certainly mysticism.

Thanks, that further supports my point that this movie interpretation of the Mandarin is very faithful to the comics.

Nah if his rings were alient tech he could just enhance his strength/durability or even create shields to protech himself.
