No Henry Cavill is 6'1 tall, so was Kirk Alyn and George Reeves. He's taller than Dean Cain by an inch, Shorter than Welling and Brandon Routh by 2 inches. It's not that big a deal.

Given what I saw of Cavill in the Immortal Trailers, the guy has the right build and intensity for the role.
Plus, unlike past Superman actors, I think Cavill is the first one to have starred in big budgeted films prior towards becoming Superman. |

Definitely not. He's only an inch shy of 6'2, which is fairly tall in my opinion. Christian Bale, who is moderately tall/average in height (at 6'0), looks shorter than Cavill I think. I'm not worried.

No. He's 6'1, not to mention camera tricks, filming angles, shoe lifts/heels, raised platforms, etc.
And if acting is what matters to you and not height of the actor, then why bother with making the thread in the first place. Close thread.

I'd go a step further and say Cavill's the first one who actually had a fanbase before being cast as well. Granted, it was a mostly female fanbase (mostly Tudors and Twilight fans, from what I gather), but there was definitely some kind of devoted Cult of Cavill before he became Superman.

If Cavil's performance in Immortals is able to both get him over to the rest of the GA in a positive way, then it should build up the excitement and anticipation towards seeing him portray the man of steel. |

I don't see why hands are so important on film anyway. You hardly notice peoples hands unless you are speaking to them in person and they shake your hand.

Nah.
They sell shoe inserts thatll increase your height 1-2 inches, so with Cavill being 6'1, it wont be a problem, especially if the Superman boots add an extra inch or so.

This can be talked about in the Henry Cavill thread, no need for another thread.

LOL. I think with the success of superman earth one, DC should model on that success, no more suits and boyscout image. go for a superman that is unsure of himself, that struggles with issues modern teenagers struggles, connect with the audience and wear leather jacket.

Henry Cavill seemed really suitable to play that role, ever since twilight aired, hotness have been redefined, and im sure henry will be able to grab hold of the twihards.

I don't think Superman should be unsure of himself. He can do almost anything he wants to. They need to play off that.

Immortals is irrelevant considering they've already got the ball rolling on selling Cavill as the new Superman (i.e. that EW cover-story). The fact that it'll bomb ten ways to Sunday won't be a hindrance to The Man of Steel because by the time it drops next Christmas, Immortals will be a distant memory.

Immortals looks like a terrible film. Cliched, overproduced and 10 years too late.

Henry Cavill is the same amount of inches shorter than Superman than Christian Bale is shorter than Batman.

But this is an origin movie, supes had lots of struggle with himself while he was still learning to be a hero. much like how it was portrayed in smallville. the film should capture that, even the original superman movie, clark kent has his own doubts while he was still in smallville, blaming himself for not being able to save pa kent.

I'd rather see a different side to him. I don't want to see Jonathan Kent die. Just because he dies in the Donnerverse doesn't mean he dies everytime.
I'd rather see him know that he can do everything and hence feel different, not in an overt manner but in a subtle way. |

I am unaware of this "Cult of Cavill" thing going on with some women.
If that was all I knew of Cavill I'd be worried - casting the role to draw in the youngwomen. But, what I do know is that Cavill is an excellent actor with palpable screen presence. An actor experienced but not widely known - sort of like Bale. That's a good thing. Physically Henry at 28 has taken on a more ruggedly handsome appearance and lost that pretty boy college look. Which is good. He'll appeal of course to the women in the "cult" but I see him appealing to the men also. Best of both worlds. I love Reeve and still I can see Henry pulling off a performace that puts him on par with Reeve as the definitive Superman. |

I wanna see a Superman who wants to be Superman. Not because it was the only option. I'd also rather not see a parent die. It's a macguffin to add faux drama and emotional depth.

How do you portray that though? Ultimately the best superheroes are the ones that have a reason to be superheroes.
Him just waking up one day and seeing 'Okay, I'm going to save the world because I have all these powers' is going to be a little difficult to portray on screen if not impossible. It was fair and fine 60 years ago for that to happen since most cinema was based purely on entertainment value. Things have changed since then. We live in a cynical world today and the story wouldn't take off as well. Ideally Superman is the hero that people want to elevate themselves to be on par with. The hero you want to be able to relate to because he's so good. The hero who sets the bar. The problem is that it would work if it was the first Superhero film ever. It's not. The unfortunate part is that to create a Superman film that would be the best comic book film ever made today is nigh impossible because of what has gone before. It's why I'm so eager to see what they do with the film. Hell I've had nightmares of the DC logo coming on screen, me cheering my head off and then flashforwards to inevitable disappointment. |

None have appeared online. Although, we should get a glimpse of him in a couple of weeks (or whenever ComiCon is) because he will be promoting 'Immortals'.
