TDK Joker's personality, voice, mannerism and the overall performance of Heath is VERY reminiscent of the character played by Brad Douriff in Exorcist III.

Loki might gain a higher status in The Avengers movie, if they do anything good with him, of course.

All film...nah...you still have Travis Bickle (Taxi Driver), Hannibal Lector and Darth Vader. Then you have some other, less well known ones. I'd say he's probably the best comic book movie villain, at least as good as Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender's Magnetos...those are my top three at least. I'd more than likely have Joker as number one.
What makes Heath's Joker great - and in some way is misused in the movie - is Joker has a great Vader-esque "I am your father moment" when he gives him that speech whilst hanging upside down. I kind of felt like that was the true ending to the film, Joker ominously letting Batman know he'd be battling him, and people like him, for a long, long, long time. Simply awesome scene. I think that's ultimately why many signal out the end as something they would have changed, because after that scene not another scene lives up. So the rest kind of unravels in comparison. I think it also puts Gordon's speech at the end to shame. |

I'm not sure i'd put him at the top of comic book film villains, let alone all villains of all time. He was awesome though.

So little mention of Reverend Harry Powell, one of the most iconic film villains ever created.
Lector, Vader, The Emperor, T-1000, Bela Lugosi's Dracula, and possibly Frankenstein.

Yeah, Joker been great so many times over, even though many may agree Ledger's was the best (personally I say Hammill). Joker is a great villain, but I think as you point out he's not as great as many, many others.

No. But god damn, he's one of the best.
Ledger truly delivered a great villain with his interpretation of the Joker. I think Id have him up there with: Kahn Vader Agent Smith

I don't know if I can honestly say that TDK Joker is the best villian of all time. What makes a villian? Do you want your villians to be like the Joker, who are pure Chaos incarnte, or do you want your villian to be the person who is human and is doing what he honestly believes is the right thing to do? Was TDK's Joker scary and evil? Beyond a doubt! But that doesn't make him THE sole greatest villian ever for me personally. Does anyone else see what I'm getting at here?

TDK's Joker is not the best film villian of all time.

He's one of the best. There are so many great ones, it is hard to narrow it down and say one is better than the others. One of the things I really like about Ledger's performance is it has some Cagney in it, which is a cool tribute to the greatest gangster in movie history.

That's a pretty silly statement. One doesn't need to be a 'hater' to have not found TDK's Joker in the upper echelon of comic book villains. I myself am sort of divided on the subject. I found Ledger's performance to be excellent but then I have to also take into account what the character actually does(with regards to the writing/story/plot/etc.) and that's where it really stinks(not Ledger's fault, he didn't write it).

Why don't you quit while you're behind. I've made one poll since I joined this place. If that means to you that I base all decisions on poll votes then enjoy your delusion.

I wouldn't say the best film villain of all time but Heath Ledger's Joker is certainly memorable for the direction his character went in.

I'll be very diplomatic and say, one of the best in recent times, but competition such as Vader, etc then maybe not.

The Terminator
T-1000 Anton Chighur Hans Landa Jason Isaacs character in The Patriot tops the number one most hated villain of all time right next to Caesar by Joaquin Phoenix in Gladiator. I'm sorry, but I HATED that man with all my guts Sadly I liked Hans and Joker too much for them to be great villains. There were great characters, but ive had villains i actually HATED Last edited by Godman; 11-26-2011 at 01:09 AM. |

Well now we're getting into the whole "villains you love to hate" vs. "villains you just hate" conundrum and there it gets a little muddled.
