So the best thing they could have done was just create a new role for a new black actor to fill. Keep in mind, both characters are well-adjusted male characters who don't talk like rappers, wear normal clothes and are usually the voices of reason in their group, which is a decidedly non-stereotypical portrayal of African-American men.

And honestly, apart from being black men, Coach and Winston don't really seem that similiar. The pilot showed us that Coach had some rage issues, whereas Winston seems more laid back, as shown when he didn't yell for Jess to get the **** out of his room for interrupting his hangover.

Wow...after the last two being uneven (either very funny or very "meh"), I was ready to put this show on the backburner if it was more of the same....but that episode was genuinely hilarious. I laughed throughout, a lot. The show has earned two more episodes to prove it has consistency for me to stick with it.

I absolutely love this show.
and that's saying a lot because I typically hate sitcoms...infact, I haven't loved a sitcom since Seinfeld. True story.

I'm loving this series. Every episode has been hilarious IMO. Especially Zooey. I loved the dance off and chicken dance at the end.

Not a fan of this show. Do people actually like it? The writing is weak and not funny, and I'm getting sick of Zooey Deschanel's persona. At first I thought she was doing a great portrayal of a stoner chick, but now I know that's all she can do.

I don't think she acted stoned in 500 Days of Summer

My friend thought Zooey looked "disturbingly hot" waving that knife around in the bathroom scene. Something tells me it was the lack of underwear and another girl in the room that contributed.

Somebody has to do a yt mashup of Jesse's chicken dance versus Gob Bluth's chicken dance. Epic confrontation! Fatality!

Was that the one girl from American Pie? Wow, haven't seen her act in anything since then.
EDIT: Yet after checking her IMDB, she's been in enough since then.

Glad I'm not alone in liking this show. Did you guys see this?
New Girl is the 1st new sitcom on any network in 20 seasons to win its first 3 nights (A18-49, since ABC’s Step By Step in fall ’91) Pretty cool. Glad it will be sticking around for a while.

Indeed. It still is rough around the edges, but each episode is ironing it out more and 1.3 was the first that convinced me it can last a long time.

The same way Michael Scott was "not a fan" of Toby Flenderson.
