Because it's impossible to have the Superman collar be lower than a button up shirt collar with a tie.......

Still...that collar is still too high. Why get rid of that?

welll then they need to explain where his boots are under his work shoes, how his cape fits under his clothes. How he goes to the bathroom if he has tights on under his clothes. Where he puts his work clothes after he rips his shirt open and flies off. if your fine with the above mysteries then i think he can somehow hide his high collar under his clothes as well.

The collar just feels unnecessary. The cape flowing out the way it does traditionally looks better. If the suit has that, and the armored look was toned down, the suit would look much better, even without the briefs.

I'm curious, does anyone know if the cape still has the yellow emblem?

No, it just looks better WITHOUT the collar, cape attachment and all.

Can somebody manip that image and take away the high collar for a more traditional one?

I've heard that it does not, but no art one way or another.

The collar looks silly but there's no way he can wear that armor under the Clark Kent clothes. Shirt rip is gone.

I did notice no red eyes in that new picture.

Where have you heard that, Kurosawa?

Camp, another great job. Thanks for those tweaks. I noticed that the new suit's boots have the seam running down the front of the boot and top of the foot as well.

I don't see anything wrong with the design posted by camp blood; why would the GA think, "oh man, that's outdated!" I still don't think the GA will give a crap.

UPDATED: with the clearer picture

i don't mind the lines, i think it loos good as long as it is NOT literally armour, but seam lines like underarmour or just hard cloths

If it looked like that, then I could get behind it, seams and all. Still think that \S/ looks pretty crappy though.

It was in a post that I saw somewhere describing the new suit before I saw it, but as I said before, no official art showing yes or no to the yellow \S/ on the back of the cape.

The only reason people like the new armor/costume better in that picture is the quality of the drawing, even tho Jim Lee is actually not a good comic book artist, he is a good pin-up artist.

Design is still teh suck but all the kewl kidz like armor and collars and red eyez.

That manip adding in the collar and the trunks does look a world better though.

It's gonna be funny when this all falls on its face and fails to sell comics. Flashpoint is already underselling.

I hope it does undersell. DC is in a mess right now.

well the thing is, i'm not sure what DC was thinking, but there is a very distinct population that buys comic books. and those people tend to enjoy elaborate, over-the-top suits. for them to think that somehow modernizing, changing "outdated" suits, "twilighting" the stories will bring a new people into comics it not very accurate. it wont. it will always be the same group of people buying the comic books.

I have to say that it looks a lot better in that picture than the first one (with Superman holding the Daily Planet). This one makes a much better first impression.

I will admit that suit looks less like a cheesy cocaine fueled redesign

Yeah, trunks on the outside is to be ridiculed but somehow a go-go dancer belt and a ton of seams and a high collar are all cool.

The superman movie isn't about keeping faithful comic book buyers happy, it's about getting to the movie audiences that usually only spend money to see blockbusters.

Every time DC releases a new image, the new suit keeps looking better and better!
I'm glad DC had the testicular fortitude to modernize Superman.
It's time for a new generation to enjoy the Man of Steel!
Thank you Jim Lee for creating these awesome new costumes!
I'm happy to see that the fans are coming around and warming up to the armor.
I pray to the lord that Cavill wears the new suit in MOS!
But I know I won't be disappointed since the trunks would look stupid on screen anyway!
Perhaps one day Superman fans take note from Iron man fans. Iron Man has changed his armor too many times to count, but no one seems to confuse the current design of the suit with the character.
Maybe one day, Superman will be seen by most as more than just a costume. Hopefully, the new writing team and Goyer will give Superman the depth of character he deserves.

And that's what counts.
I don't want to come round the threads in early 2013, to find a thread about how Man of Steel bombed but it's ok, since he "wore the trunks" and they "respected the tradition and the character".
MOS will not be another GL.
It will be the start of a successful franchise that will define Superman for the 21st Century.
