Though I think the artist is very talented and has made a great superhero suit, to me it is NOT Superman. That red on the thighs is too much like a loincloth (as others have pointed out) and I don't know why those who put red in that area can't just leave it as briefs.

Again though it's a great artists rendering of a superhero, I would never accept that as Superman.
It also kind of looks like he wet himself there, though why it would be red I don't know.

I think this is fabulous work!
But, IMHO, it also makes the case that the movie suit should be rubber or some type of armor, instead of fabric.

Because they have psychological issues regarding underwear.

Not to insult anyone else's ideas, but I've always been a fan of the classic/original suit. I think they should stick with that, rather than making any big changes to the costume. I'm just so used to classic costume, and it's always been my favorite

I like where you're going with this, but I think you need to alter the armor a bit more so that it doesn't just look like the TDK batsuit in blue.

Hey guys, I found this picture of a bunch of Superman Shields.

Since the classic \S/ has never been used in a movie before, I think the costume in the new movie should use it. It's perfect.

I personally think the Classic S is the best, but on a suit it will likely look different since it will either be part of the chest piece or on the chest piece itself.

Ring Deacon... though I think you did a very good job with your manip work, I don't really care for your design.
Guess I'll just never get over the classic Reeves suit.

I agree with you M&D.
I wouldn't mind if they updated the fabrics, but the color combination and the red trunks are a must for me.

Thanks for the complement on my manip. I did it just to see what could be possible with DC's new design in a movie suit... But, like you I love the Reeves suit. I grew up with it. To me he was Superman. Other than maybe the Spider-Man suit. Reeves' costume was right off the pages of the comics. I don't think we need to go the body armor route with Man of Steel. Superman can get away with wearing a fabric suit and still be believable as a superhero.

I had many pairs of underoos growing up, and had a blast being any hero i wanted to be in them. I bought a few pairs for my son that he loves too recently. If only they made them in adult sizes.

The colors are a must. You cannot go dark with Superman. The point of the bright colors in his suit are to make him stand out as a symbol of hope and goodness. It separates him from not just the villains but from the heroes in the universe that have a some what darker nature.

I agree the colours should be vivid, bright.
It's great when you see that flash of red and blue zipping across the sky. The bold colour scheme emphasises the positive influence of the character.

Where's the George Reeves S??
I couldn't care less about the Dean Cain one though.
I think the only problem with trying to use classic S is that it might need to be a little wider when sitting on the chest.

Actually you can find men's briefs for Superman, Batman, Star Wars... that is if you venture into a WalMart.

Yes, when my 11yr old was watching "Superman Returns" last year, he asked me if Brandon Routh was "Bad Superman" because the colors of the suit were so dark.
I had to tell him that no it wasn't the bad version of Superman, just a new suit with darker colors... he knows his Superman!

You know what you can do if you have screen capture software (it's free off the net) - play Superman Returns. Go to any scene with Superman in it but mainly the confronttion beat up Superman scene.

Capture several snapshots and save them to your picture folder. Then, using simple edit software (if you have Microsoft it's part of your package) brighten the background, make the colors lighter and deeper. Experiment.

You'll find what a difference brighter suit colors make to the whole sense of the scene. The other thing you'll notice is - you'll se things in the scene that you hadn't on film because that scene was too dark. So it wasn't just the dark suit but also the general dark backgrounds used way too much in SR - IMHO.

ha ha I cared so little for that whole storyline (Superman would have NEVER left his child behind ) That I don't care to go through and lighten up frame by frame of the movie to see what I missed.

Honestly, I don't really care to see the movie again at all. There were too many flaws in the script and the suit was toooooo dark.

ITA - SR was poorly conceived and executed.

I played around anyway to test Singer's claim that the colors were just right for the special cameras they were using. Didn't watch the whole thing again. Saw it complete once and that was enough. I used the scene selection option to go the the places I wanted to color edit.

What I found was that Singer was blowing smoke - the suit looks lots better brightened up.

Singer just went crazy by color grading the entire film to make it look nostalgic and in the process messed up the suit.

I would've been completely happy with everything about that film if it just had some more damn action.

It wouldn't have hurt them to maybe even have Supes save the world by hurling the island into the sky but Lex then goes bat**** crazy and gets himself that armored suit he so loves using in the comics.
