It still looks off without the trunks...maybe if the red belt loops could be eliminated or made the same color as the belt or maybe the same color as the suit it might look less "off".

Hate to say it and I dont wanna sound rude, but wont you people ever learn?!

You cant expect people to ignore the trunk-problem by removing them and then leaving the bright yellow or red belt behind. It's ridiculous and just futile. He looks naked that way and it actually makes you focus more on the crotch.

You also have to have the red (trunks) in the middle for balance to tie together the red in the cape and the boots. Pretty basic composition.
If you remove the trunks you might as well take away the boots and then the cape as a result, otherwise it's gonna look off. I guess making everything blue as a compensation is a no-go.
I would love to be proven wrong somehow, but so far none of the suggestions have done that, least of all the DC-relaunch.

I do agree with you, and it is sort of the biggest question surrounding the suit.

You either stick to classic and risk the already rife mocking of his pants and his bog blue boy scout image.

Or you attempt to change it and end up looking even more stupid if the design doesn't go down well, and demanding less respect because you essentially caved to public opinion while abandoning the long standing traditions of the character.

I really do think classic with slight upgrades is the safer option.

And Snyder himself said that they're going to make this movie as if there have never been any Superman movies made prior. If that's the case, why would his first step be to dramatically change a Superman staple? I think all signs point to modernized classic.

.....because he's working as if there was no precedent on Superman and/or the costume on film.....and so therefore he can do whatever he wants with it. I have absolutely no idea which way Snyder is going to go....but this isn't exactly a compelling argument for any direction.

If he said he'd make the movie as if there were no comics I'd worry.. But forgetting the movies will still leave decades of superman's legendary history to use! Classic suit made of decent material and no Williams theme is all..

...the only thing it means, with near certainty, is no Williams theme. It says absolutely nothing about the costume. I even think there's a strong possibility snyder will go that direction...but this comment from him means nothing of the sort.

sephs version isn't bad i just wish the belt didn't have those gaps next to the buckle i would have edited those out and made the buckle gold

heres my version of the new belt and honestly the costume looks a lot better with just a belt fix

Actually, the cyclical nature of the argument is what's stupid. I try to keep myself from posting in this thread because there's no point in trying to reason with a brick wall. I remain, however, confident that my wishes will be granted.
