Are we ever gonna see a Batarang used as an offensive weapon?

I don't know if this has been touched on, but does anyone else think perhaps the Batarang in BB could be more about "sending a message" to the underworld, etc? Like how the Joker leaves the playing card at the scene of his crime. Batman was leaving a Batarang, which is essentially his symbol near where he has apprehended criminals as a way of showing he captured them, therefore becoming the myth, etc. Just an idea
