Qwikster is suck a stupid name
![]() But it looks like that's what I'll be getting since our last movie rental store in town shut down and the only choices are the Red Box or Blue Box and those only have new releases.

Netflix's stock all-time peak was July 8, 2011 at 295. It's fallen quite a bit since. Today the peak was 160 and it's dropped to 143. Their CEO is done.

Wishing I had sold short.
Netflix for streaming makes sense as a brand name. You're getting flicks from the net. They should have name the DVD service Homeflix, or something that doesn't suck. |

I think Netflix's stock will bounce back. In the long run, I think this business strategy will prove successful. There is always going to be a knee jerk reaction when sudden news regarding the company's business strategy is made.

eh, it'll take a couple years or so to bounce back, imo.

50% is a total loss of investor confidence. And unless it recovers all of the loss in the next week, it should be a clear signal to Netflix (and all the other streaming and non-streaming providers) that consumers want streaming. That's where the market is going. |

I dunno..I don't care all that much about streaming. Even if I go through a month or so where I don't feel like watching many movies I'm always going to want to watch DVD's, and I sure as s**t ain't gonna buy each and every movie that comes out. Streaming is very nice and ultra convenient, but I still want my DVD rentals!!!

Fair enough, I can understand the logic in that. I, as I'm sure I've said before, enjoy going through all the extras that come with the DVD's and would totally be on board with streaming if they were able to include that with each release...

I think it seems like Netflix is expecting the DVD rental business to flop eventually, that's why they keep the name Netflix for streaming services only, but assign DVD & game rental to this new Qwikster company. It's like they were thinking that if the rental services really do go belly-up, they'll still have Netflix around.

Really bad move for Netflix. Seperating streaming and dvd's was not a good idea at all. Their dvd system is seriously flawed right now. Why would I pay that money just to wait a freaking month for a new release AND pay extra for blu-ray when Blockbuster doesn't and they get movies in on day one.

It's almost comical to look at their stock. It's like looking at a mountain as the year progresses going up, up, up. Only once you reach the top the other side of the mountain is just missing and all that's there is this steep drop into darkness.

I feel like an idiot right now for never thinking about it like that. I already pay blockbuster $15 a month for in store unlimited video game rental and im not gonna lie most of netflix stock is always never available til like 20-30 days later. I might just say screw it and go all through blockbuster. Im not a big streaming fan and more bluray disc so no biggie there. |

I dropped the DVD service a long time ago. Primarily because they would get new movies in a month after video stores. Streaming is where it's at right now. I enjoy their collection but I do wish they would get more current stuff. They're probably working hard on that as we speak.

If I want to keep both streaming and DVD, I'm not going to use Quikster. I'll stream with Netflix and DVD from Blockbuster. Blockbuster has new stuff sooner, and doesn't charge extra with BluRay.
Honestly, this is probably the best thing to happen to Blockbuster in a long time. I wouldn't be surprised to see their numbers taking a huge spike right now. Also makes me wonder if the Netflix CEO has some money invested in Blockbuster...

With everyone dropping the DVD service, it kind of makes me think that the Netflix CEO wanted that. He always wanted Netflix to be the company that provides video streaming...he only used the DVD service to get word of mouth out there for the company. He will be putting most of his energy into the streaming business anyway.

Doesn't Netflix have a bigger dvd selection than Blockbusters?

Yeah, especially with shows and older indie and foreign films. If you're just going with newer domestic stuff, though, the actual difference will probably be pretty minimal overall.

The main difference between the two will be the amount time they get new movies. Blockbuster gets them as soon as they arrive on dvd or blu-ray. Netflix usually gets them a month after that. If you don't mind the wait, then I think Netflix (or Quikster) will be the better deal due to the bigger selection.

I started a free trial with Blockbuster the day of the announcement, mostly because Netflix sent a disc 5 down in my queue even though all the ones above it were available. The free blu-ray and games definitely appeals, but the website is a chore to use and we'll see if the turnaround time is the same.
