Fantastic move on the part of WB. I, being the lifelong Superman fan that I and everyone else here are, definitely do not want this rushed whatsoever. Superman needs to be the pinnacle of ALL superheroes once again. So if that means delaying the release for 6 months, then so be it. Gives them ample time to put finishing touches on VFX, SFX, re-shoots, etc. Now we will finally get the Superman movie that we have all been waiting for and deserve. Chin-up people!

y'know it was up in the air if we would get anything after this movie anyway, cause of the lawsuit and the ridiculous amount of superhero flicks out there. that i'm all for them doing this right and giving us a great superman movie.

Shooting starts next week. I think we'll get our first images of a suit in a couple months. Promo photos will be spaced out between now and the teaser which I now expect to appear...I guess with TDKR now.

Truth. He doesn't want crappy cell phone images of the suit leaking out everywhere. Then again, WB let that happen with TDKR teaser and they didn't seem to care.

That was abit harder to avoid though, pics of Superman could be shown before he even wears it on a set.

Which might not be until September, because they are shooting Smallville first. I would imagine he won't be Superman in Smallville. Who knows though.

No, they cared, and I'm sure they didn't just let it happen. They wouldn't have asked YouTube and various websites to keep taking it down if they hadn't cared.

To me, this shows that WB has MORE faith in this project than they initially had.
Giving it a prime, summer tentpole release shows that they think it will be able to hold it's own and bring in revenue during the summer of 2013. Plus, with the poor performance of Green Lantern we won't be seeing a sequel for that in 2013 as WB had expected....they have no Batman or Harry Potter....so this move makes a lot of sense as a business move. Still, I wish I'd see it sooner, but this only shows that WB has faith in the project and also will give it the proper time to be successful. -R

I'm relatively indifferent on waiting an extra six months, but I am a little undecided on the decision itself.
I have no doubt in my mind that The Hobbit is going to destroy the box office for several weeks, but one movie does not over-saturation make. So my question really is: Is The Hobbit for one month > IM3 + Thor2 + potentially XFC2 + potentially ST2 over a 2-3 month period? (also noting 3 of those 4 are superhero flicks, Hobbit is not) |

Paramount's been mum on Star Trek 2. Hell "officially" it's still set for June 2012. So it could still drop next Christmas.

This is good news. Summer 2013 gives more room for post production and as Robin91939 mentioned it will be launched as a big summer event with better chance at the box office.
And the best part, the year 2013 is the 75th Anniversary of Superman since his debut in Action Comics #1 in 1938. |

Moving it back can only be beneficial. If it means not getting a rushed Superman movie, then so be it.

But there was a second stipulation saying the movie had to be released before 2013. Was that changed?

Dang! Horrible news, but probably for the best in the end.
I dont think there's a chance we'll get a suit-reveal this year then. I just dont see them risking people loosing interest in the suit if they have to wait 2 years to see it in action. I wouldnt do that myself if I were in marketing. Ding dang doo!

I've heard that floated around before, but I don't think I ever read it in any court documents.

I don't know...I was digging the possibility of winter release. Plus, in the summer, it seems like the expectations go through the roof. It's like if it doesn't make atleast 500 mil globally, it's a flop.

Yep, I though the teaser would be in front of Sherlock Holmes 2, now it's looking like Dark Knight Rises.

I know, but they're risking the suit becoming stale before the release. I really dont wanna grow "tired" of it before that. Like I've suggested before, they might start shooting some of the FX-sequences, the origin and Smallville-stuff for a couple of months and then move on to the suited scenes. If they might do it like that, I guess they could hold back the suit-reveal for late 2011, since they're technically not shooting those scenes.

Although I wanted a christmas movie, this can only be for the good of the film. More time for reshoots, CGI post production as every one has said. Although should they now change the blanket title from "AUTUMN FROST" to "SUMMER SWEAT"? <V> Last edited by verisimilitude; 07-21-2011 at 04:10 PM. |
