It's went up a point a day for several days in a row now. I'd be tickled if it climbed to 80.

the best part of the 78% is all the international (although mostly UK) press that pushed it there.
to get to 80%, it'll need about 9-10 more positive reviews (providing there are no more negative ones) it's certainly possible. |

It wouldn't surprise me now that the real reviews are coming in.
Also, I saw EW didn't print a review because it said its not screened for critics. Umm . . . that is garbage. The movie was screened for critics multiple times before it's release. Once again Time Warner is trying to meddle with Cap's reputation. I saw the movie on 7/14. What, they can't meet that type of deadline for a weekly magazine? Please.

It it gets to 80%, I will freak out!

well that's a bit of a weak statement isn't it? You should be able to form your own opinion of a movie and be able to weigh it against real life experiences to determine your own suspension of disbelief and rate it as good or bad. It's a matter of personal taste, but you don't need other people's personal taste to tell you if a movies good. If you like it you like it.
I want to see the RT score and other scores go up for a similar reason, but moreso because I want the film to have a lasting legacy and to see sequels. If the public consensus (more than critics) stands that the film is good than Cap will live on

I understand actually. I think fans like it when both critics and the masses enjoy something they enjoy as well. The film comes off as more legitimate when it is well liked by fans, critics, and the masses alike. Look at the Nolan Bat films, Spider-Man 1 and 2, etc. X-Men 2 was the same way.
It's a pattern at least with good comic book films I think.

To me it's always like your favorite sports team. Aside from following it, enjoying the good performances, and rooting for it to be number one, you want other people to be as enthusiastic and like it as much as you do.

It's not a weak statement, it's just how I view movies. I gave the film a 10/10 when it was still in the low 70s. Critical ratings never stop me from seeing or enjoying any film I am interested in.
Despite being around the 30% mark on RT, I still saw Transformers and felt it was almost as good as the first movie. In addition, I still saw and enjoyed Green Lantern and despite some major flaws, I enjoyed the action and visual spectacle that it was. This view also works in the opposite way. Despite being called the best X-Men yet, I would rate First Class probably third in the series. Nothing new or original about it and the special effects were horrendous, IMO. So is it a "weak statement" to want a movie I enjoyed to do well critically? I don't think so.

I root for films to make money more than I root for them to be critically praised. Anyone can be a critic, as much as anyone can cook. I here quote a line from the Pixar film Ratatouille (critically praised but only a so so movie in my book):
In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so.

I hope Red Skull shows up in Avengers. I think Captain America strongly eluded it.
He dreamed of Gods of nordic/germanic origin and he ends up seemingly traveling to Asgard (correct me if I'm wrong) in CA:TFA. Red Skull + Loki team up would be great.

Rottentomatoes is more accurate just because it has more reviews than Metacritic.

How about an Asgard movie with Thor and Captain America against Red Skull and Loki?

I don't think that's necessarily true. Metacritic only allows reviews from "Top Critics" so even though RT has more reviews, most of them aren't "real" reviewers.

Agreed. Quite a few of the reviewers on RT are of the "some guy with a website" variety. I visited a few of the sites several weeks ago and found that they were virtual ghost towns, with no activity other than the reviews that RT had dutifully counted in its tomatometer. The site would be much better if it eliminated the minor websites with little or no readership and focused on major newspapers, magazines and sites, like CNN.

Crazy that this has now overtaken Thor given the starts the two had.

I just saw this movie tonight and my thoughts are its a pretty average movie. Its not terrible but it isn't great either. I thought the dialogue and direction was lacking in some important moments like the first face to face meeting with Red Skull and Cap. I expected sparks electricity but all I really got was a stare down which was disappointing to me. For example when Batman finally met the Joker face to face in the TDK in that interogation room thats what I wanted in that scene. I wanted to see a clash of brawn and ideology that led to compelling dialogue. What actually happened on film wasn't bad but it was easily forgettable. That relationship between Red Skull and Cap should of been explored more. For Cap its nothing personal but Red Skull hates Captain America and everything he stands for.
My other beef with this movie is that some of the action scenes seem to come out of nowhere. One minute Carter is shooting Cap testing out his shield next minute he's kicking ass taking names later.I understand they wanted to show Cap and the howling commandos in battle. However that whole part seemed very rush because things were moving at a snails pace up into that point. Overall I thought it was an average movie but if they are going for a part two I'd like to see a different person sitting in the directors seat and different group of writers. Nobody did a terrible job but I expected more, something more compelling when you factor in the people involved. Chris Evans was great as Steve Rogers but I know Hugo Weaving could be better at being the Red Skull.
