Now looking at the opening week DVD sales numbers from the other 4 superhero films this year:
Thor -$9,867,282 Green Hornet -$7,184,531 X-Men: First Class -$6,328,615 Green Lantern -$4,782,431 So I'm wondering how Cap's first week will stack up.

DVD sales are really dying across the board. Just 2 years ago TF2 had a $125,129,811 first week of sales on DVD.
Well TF3 is out now on DVD. It's first week of sales? $13,565,169 That's just a staggering drop off. -89.2%

Do you mean Blu ray sales are taking over dvd format, or home video sales in general are tumbling?

I think online streaming is killing home video/dvd.

The thing is that Transformers 3 made $13 million in three days, not in the total of seven days. Now if it made only 13$ million in it's first week of release, then the story would be different, Transformers 3 is making more money on blu-ray than it is on dvd. It made $49 million from blu-ray sales some time ago.

What you really mean is the first group of three days. All of those movies made that much over the period of three days.

Got mine last week, and watched it twice already. For me, it's improved even more on second and third viewings.
For the husband, he couldn't take his eyes off of Haley Atwell. "She's so beautiful, it's almost unreal." I always did think he had great taste LOL!! |

The last they reported was "Week Ending Oct 16, 2011" so no news on Cap yet.

I think you are right about that. Even I'm starting to feel that buying movies is pointless in this day and age.
I did get a chance to finally watch my blu-ray over the weekend. Still great. I can see where some of the criticism comes from, because there isn't much to the story, but it is such a well crafted version of the classic superhero tale, that you honestly don't care and just get lost in the fun. It feels satisfying, because it IS everything we expect a superhero film to be.

This also confirms what I've noticed around other sites. Regardless of relationship status or conscious intent, every single guy I've talked to about this film has developed some sort of crush on Hayley Atwell because of this film. She's just so stunning and her presence so captivating that it's almost some form of enchantment. |

Why I love Atwell:
-British, so she's got a hot British accent. -Real, curvy woman and not anorexic stick figure.

*We used to have a store in town called DVD Planet which specialized in all manner of obscure and hard to find titles but sadly they went out of business.

I bought the DVD copy today. I'm warming up to the cover, but I wish Paramount and Marvel used the superior teaser or one-sheet for the DVD.
BTW, about eroding DVD sales -- physical media sales are dwindling, but for movies that made an obscene amount of money (Avatar), big family movies, or have a devoted fanbase (Twilight, Harry Potter) are guaranteed to have very robust sales ($70M to $147M). Not a lot of movies this year have tapped the "wannasee" vein so well to encourage home video sales. |

Considering just how huge Avatar was in theaters it's DVD sales don't equate at all. $190M in DVD sales is really good for any movie but for Avatar it's just ho-hum. Both TF & TF2 smashed it to smithereens in DVD sales(both topping way beyond $200M) and they made no where near as much $ in theaters.

The film transfers and everything on here were good, but I feel like both Thor and Cap had little special features on their DVDs. Some good stuff in there, but very light overall. I would like to have seen more on the DVD's features.

Anyway, my point is that I'm not surprised Avatar didn't light the home video world on fire. Most people don't have 3D TVs (which are still very expensive), so there's not much point in buying the movie when you can't see it the way it's meant to be seen. |

Agreed. Both Iron Man movies and TIH had much more in the way of features. I'm wondering if it simply means better versions are coming, or like the current topic on this board, studios are choosing to invest less in disc production due to declining sales.

What does Jamie Alexander have to do with this? This is the Cap forums and we r talking about the Cap movie and Atwell.
Regardless of Alexander, Atwell's not the traditional type Hollywood likes to glorify especially considering that Kate Winslet and Liv Tyler are referred to as "fat."

Agreed! Like co2, I smell a cash grab. There will be better versions out, probably after THE AVENGERS which will have more features. For CA:TFA I was expecting featurettes on CAP's motorcycle, Nazi research technology wrt the triebflugel, superbomber, and supertank, etc. For THOR I wold have thought they would would hvae featurettes on Norse mythology, etc. |
