Yeah Liam, but it's done in a more subtle way...within a conversation that seems real.
In TDK, people don't speak like that. A guy dressed up as a bat going: "BECAUSE YOU WERE THE BEST OF US!!!!" Sorry...that's just very unrealistic for a film that is trying to be real and profound |

Captain america is a masterpiece in its own right and a much Superior movie to the Dark knight in every sense of the words
i like the fact that chris evans ( I heard on tv from iron man star himself) takes is role so seriously that he thinks is "captain america" but he played skinny steve rogers so well i was beginning to think that was the real him now i can see why they chose him for this. |

I enjoyed Cap more than TDK myself. Still, I can understand the love for TDK. It's a fine film.
Now, Cap is MUCH better than Batman Begins and I believe more non fanboys would easily agree with that statement. So, let's compare Avengers or Cap 2 to TDK when it's time. |

This threas is going to invite Nolan fanboys and spark fights...just give it a couple hours.
First time a fight breaks out, I close the thread and deal out infractions!!!!

The Dark Knight is a movie that is great the first time you watch it, but the problem is that there is so many intense scenes that while they were awesome the first time multiple viewings it just becomes boring because you know what happens. Cap however is just a fun movie that happens to have a great story to go along with it, as well as strong characters. For me, I don't think either is better then each other because they are completely different films.

I thought TDK was a fine film But I don think of it as primarily a Superhero film.
I think of it as Crime film with some Thriller elements that has some Superheroic touches . Captain America has many more fantastic elements like Super Soldier Serums and Mysterious Power Sources But alongside TDK, it shares a similar strength in that it is grounded in reality by the quality of the performances . I enjoyed both films equally. |

TDK was a great film, but IMO only because of Heath, and secondly because of Aaron Eckhart. It was sad that Bale and Cain literally had nothing to do in this movie. No bat cave, no Wayne Manor. Not really much of a batman movie. But it was a great film.

I've come to the conclusion that every superhero film outside of the TDK is playing on a different level therefore comparison are pointless and grossly unfair, the only solution I find is to leave TDK out of the debate all together. You may like a certain movie better, that's subjective, but one thing I think can be agreed upon is that TDK tried to be more than just a superhero film, no other movie has attempted to be anything else other than a superhero film.

I really like TDK to me though if you were to swtich batman for a rouge loose canon cop and Joker for a crazy crimnal minus face paint. I still think the movie would be good because its more based on reality. I feel people say TDK is great is because its the safe thing to say if you put any other comic book film above it your opinon means nothing. Im not gonna lie I like Cap more than TDK but my favorit CBM is Kick ass. Is TDK overrated yes but is it good yes I think we all can agree its a good movie.

I have to say I'm impressed that there seems to be far more rational thinking people here than the expected influx of zealous "Al Bundy's" (aka, Nolan-worshipping DC fanboys).

TDK tried to be something else than just another superhero movie, captain america played very safe and did try to comit risks.
Incredible how this thread seems to have a lot of people aproving, in my opinion captain america is the most overrated movie of the summer, it wasn't better than Thor, it wasn't better than x-men:first class, and it could have been much better

Good God, now people are actually making separate threads devoted to TDK comparisons. It's not like people in the TDKR forum are talking about Marvel films...
But hey, for the sake of joining in: TDK was infinitely more ambitious than any other superhero movie I've seen. That it successfully realised most of those ambitions renders it the most appealing to me.

Apples and oranges; a better comparison would First Avenger vs. Superman The Movie.

Aaahhh, there they are.
I knew we would eventually get a little infestation of 'Al Bundy's. It's a real pity you can't put down some poison or traps to get rid of them like you would rats and other disease-infested pests. But c'est la vie. The thing is if it so important and impressive that tdk became something other than a CBM, then that would suggest that to tdk-lovers CBM's are inherently inferior. This then raises the question that if they view CBM's as inferior why are you here on a site devoted to this genre. Why not infest other websites dedicated to other genre's that to you are inherently superior to ComicBook Movies? Just for the record I LOVE CBM's! The genre is a valid one same as crime drama's, romantic comedies, sci-fi thrillers, etc., etc. It is offensive to me, and I would think other lovers of this genre, to claim that a movie is inherently better when it tries to become something other than a ComicBook Movie. Long live the CBM!!! Long live MARVEL studios for giving us real CBM's who are not ashamed of what they are or the source material from whence they came!!!!! |

Are you going to complain about the non TDK fan who, unprovoked, made the thread in the first place, 'infesting' this forum? No, of course not. Your hypocrisy is amusing.

Shadowlord, you are a freaking genius. I don't think that even if I tried, I could think of a better way of saying what you said.
So we applaud tdk for being more than a comic book movie? So it's shameful to have the batcave, to see batman fighting clearly and have the story focus on the darkness of batman, just like the comics? My original point stands. Those that put TDK as the top movie, do not appreciate comics and don't understand what make them good. Comics are supposed to be both fun and profound forms of art. Tdk was trying to be a regular film but it failed in that respect becuase it just tried to copy both Heat and Point Break, the latter films being much better. |

What i meant with TDK being different is that it tried to be different than the other comic book adaptations, because it was able to be more than just a summer blockbuster(what captain america was) and stayed true to the comics by being deep too.
With the villains christopher Nolan changed the way some looked and their many of their origins but made them still be the villains we love, psychologically they're the villains we know and love. The same happens with the characters, for me The Dark Knight also had a great ending not because of gary oldmans speech, but because of the entire scene with Two-Face and Gordon's family

Chris Evans plays Cap better than Bale plays the Bat.
That is a scientific fact. |
