It's nothing new either. Pretty much every animated adaptation since STAS and Superman Returns have left it off. This is the "we can't animate an S shield on a flapping cape" age.

Maybe Zack just didn't want to put it on. If Smallville can do it even though it looked like it was filmed on a calculator Zack Snyder can do it on special IMAX cams.

I like it without...but it doesn't bother me if it's on the cape either

Nolan's Batman doesn't wear trunks and his suit is very different from the comics, so? Nobody cares (except for some crazy bigots).

The bottom line is, he looks like Superman. Sorry, but the shallow whining of some is getting old, look at the global picture instead of getting upset over things that don't matter that much.

Martin Campbell (director of Casino Royale) pushed hard for Cavill as Bond, but the producers thought he was too young at that time (2005 / 2006). After Craig leaves the role Cavill would be of a proper age, but if his Superman career takes off I don't think the Bond producers would hire him as to not associate their property with another big culture icon, Superman of course. And about Fassbander, I think he should be Bond now, he will be too old already by the time Craig leaves the Bond franchise. Oh and about the suit, I like what I'm seeing so far

The next Bond will neither be Cavil nor Fassbender. It will be an unknown.

Logic to the rescue!!!!

No S on the cape because they are cheap/lazy.

No trunks because they let decons intimidate them into dropping the classic.

Final grade on costume: 6/10, same as Superman: Returns.

The "we can't animate the S on the back of the cape" is an excuse to be cheap. James Cameron made me swear up and down that 10 ft tall blue Indians were real, they can have a yellow \S/ symbol flap around on a cape.

Pretty disappointed.

Or because they just prefer a design version without it.

Who from this specific production said they can't animate an S on the back of the cape?

Sorry dude, but I disagree. Am I the only one seeing blue shorts? This picture isn't the best, but there are other versions that indicate (to me at least), that he's wearing a gold/yellow belt, with different textured blue shorts.

I can see an edge where the leg opening of the shorts would be......

Why would they even make shorts/trunks if it's the same color? That'd be like Captain Marvel wearing....red trunks...on top of his red tights.

Well, that was the excuse on Superman: Returns, so I'm guessing that will be the excuse here. Or maybe it's just that their design taste sucks, since they let themselves be cowered by a bunch of non-fans into dropping the trunks.

This movie is being made from a position of cowardice anyway.

That was a ridiculous excuse....unless adding the yellow S was an afterthought...after they had done the modeling and animation. It's understandable for TAS because it was all hand-drawn/animated. But if you create you're original cape model with a yellow s from the get-go...the the cape is no harder to animate than a plain red one. It's more of a creative decision...some prefer the yellow S, others don't. They didn't. Which one sucks depends on who you ask, but neither is an altruism by itself.

For the aesthetic. We've all seen how ridiculous it would look having a skin tight jump suit on a man.....the shorts break that up. Red shorts don't work any more, but shorts are needed.

Even the new design in the comic books has blue shorts......(sort of).

If the trunkless design works, whats the big deal? There's obviously some gold pattern there with the buckle to break up the blue.

Looks to me like those "panels" on the side are narrower and end at more of a point at the belt buckle.

I didn't design Superman's costume, Joe Shuster did. And the real costume looks better than Snyder's.

It's a good way to cut corners and save a little money.

"Oh we made an creative decision on this movie that we are only making due to legal reasons."

No, they cut a corner so when they have CG models of Superman flying, they don't have to spend the little bit of extra time to deal with the \S/.

Of course getting rid of the trunks is worse, but the combination of no trunks and no \S/ on the back of the cape makes the costume = Brandon Routh's leather cape suit with the t-shirt neck IMO.
