You don't have to worry about it spoiling WZ. It's thankfully not been as bad as I would have thought (I'm reaaaaaaaaallly not, a fan of Way, but, I'm always going on about that...) but it's been alright. I've been waiting for that spark, it's just been moving slowly so far. Frank's inclusion and interaction with Ross in the first issue was rather nice, but it felt as though Frank was in a typical situation getting heated. Nothing to tie it to Rucka, mostly though because I think he's ignoring continuity with Frank and just plucked him out of anytime post-Ennis.

Frank's conversation with Thor gives him a perfect segue into the Thunderbolts thing. Kind of a shame that it's ignored.

Yea, agreed.
It's too bad TBolts starts off with "Oh, looks like Frank's in a typical mess getting ugly! Hey...izzat Gen. Ross?"Preview for next issue: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?p...eview&id=14990 |

Yeah looks good, I love myth-building characters like this. I thought the chat with Thor was cleverly portrayed where he shows his godly wisdom, just really well written with good understanding of both characters. Fraction wrote both Thor and Punisher, imagine if he wrote that meeting. I'll miss this series when its gone.

Yeah, it's always a shame when Rucka's entirely absent from both of the Big 2.

It's de-evolution. If I never saw the old "spandex" look for the Punisher again I'd die happy (and I've been reading the character since his first appearance in Spider-man). As far as WarZone goes, Rucka has proven himself to be one of the few writers to really "get" the character. In essence, I'd say that its really just him and Ennis that have written the character well in the last decade or so. Fraction proved that he had no understanding of Frank and Remender felt the need to change what was at the core of the character for cheap, bizarre shock value (and I somewhat enjoyed Franken-Castle). It's a shame that Rucka couldn't continue on a Punisher title or replace Way on Thunderbolts. Marvel really screwed up in losing some of the best talent in the industry.

I totally agree with the white gloves and boots, its just really stupid. Texera's costume design on the Punisher was way better back in Punisher War Zone #50 even with the long hair. In Nightmare the pouches around the gloves and boots are really poorly designed, the costume isn't intimidating or practical at all.

I don't mind the costume, but I find myself not liking the white boots. For me, the white gloves + black boots (as he's been drawn at times) works for me. In the end I can live with the white boots costume and all, but when I have a choice I prefer the more modern look that he has under Ruckas run.

Who gives a s**t what he wears? What drives the Punisher is his motivation, not how he accessorizes...

I think we are getting the white boot/glove costume thing in the Punisher Nightmare series is that it was written two and a half three years ago when Frank still had his NAM origin and was back in the classic costume which is before Rucka rebooted it. On the covers you can see Tex has dated them 2010 ![]() Marvel have had it sitting on the shelves for ages that's all Last edited by fat freddys cat; 01-26-2013 at 11:48 AM. |

Personally i enjoy a good Punisher story, i don't care about the suit, if he's written properly i'm cool with that. White gloves/black, classic suit or tactical suit i don't mind. PS: Next Wednesday don't forget War-Zone #4 and Nightmare #5. |

What is all this talk about the NAM origin being changed? Is this all based off of the ONE panel of Frank in desert fatigues? That seems like silly assumptions. For one has any one read the script? Does Rucka specifically state Frank is a vet of desert storm?
And I'm totally down with the white gloves and boots.

Nightmare definitely takes me back to the 90's era of the Punisher in a good way. It seems with Marvel pulling this out of the closet to finally print that the Punisher might be getting a push. I'd love to see him make a huge comeback and be an integral part of the MU.

The Punisher golden era was in the early 90's till 95 more or less, make no mistake we are never gonna see three ongoing titles to this character again. In my opinion it was too much for a character like this but it was good time to be a Punisher fan.
Other thing is the only writers who could understand the character after that golden era were in my opinion Ennis, Maberry(Punisher vs Marvel Universe) and Rucka. I would give a shot to Maberry this time if he could write a Punisher ongoing. Gimple is doing a great job in this "nightmare" mini. |

I like that Thunderbolts is cleaning up Frank's skull a bit. I haven't really been a fan of the smeared, faded skull in the main series. It makes sense and everything since Frank's probably not worrying too much about customizing his gear and making it all pretty, but the visual just doesn't pop as much on the page to me.

I never minded the smeared skull look. Sometimes it really looked great. I wasn't sure I would like him being on a team, but so far it's working pretty well. I think they went the smear way ever since the 2004 movie.

Yup, definitely started appearing after the 2k4 movie. I liked it and in my head canon that's his thrown together on some kevlar-gritty-street-look. The more professional skull would be for specialized suits when handling bigger threats like super villains, and that would probably be sculpted of decal'd onto the armor.

I loved how his skull looked in Rucka's stuff. The dripped skull looks awesome IMO. But, I love my clean skull designs, too.
Loving Noto's preview art. Also, I have to laugh at Frank mackin' up the chicks. |
