I never saw Grindhouse at the theaters -- shame. But it's the kind of homage I'd expect from Tarantino & Rodriguez. I wonder if QT did the same for Kill Bill at the theaters...?

And that's not a bad idea, in terms of putting the epic into this movie.
Harry Potter, The Hobbit, and the latest Twilight are doing the same thing....I'd genuinely like to see them film Avengers 2 and 3 at the same time, and release one in, say, 2015 and the follow-up in 2016. An Avengers 2.0 and 2.5, so to speak.

I don't think they can properly flesh out the invasion and juggle 4 leads with just 130 minutes. Independence Day was barely able to do that with 145.

the problem with that concept is that movies that are filmed back to back are never as good as movies that are filmed with a few years in between.
BTTF3, POTC3, ROTK, those awful Matrix movies, they all had the same problem: tired directors and a tired crew. (Matrix had a few more problems)
Back-to-back filming never worked out.

I'm not a fan of splitting a movie into two parts. It's like 3D. One movie made a mint off of it and now all the other studios want to turn their trilogy finale into two parts. Maybe HP8 was great, but how was HP7? Taking a complete story and splitting it into two parts leaves you with one movie of setup and another of delivery. It's a bad formula, IMO.

HP7pt1 was the most unpleasant moviegoing experience I have ever had; only sheer will kept me from walking out, and pt 2 did not make up for it.

There are precautions you can take against that:

1. Don't drink tea or coffee up to several hours before.
2. Don't drink anything during the movie, especially not fizzy drinks which contain caffeine. These act as accelerants and make you want the toilet more.
3. Use the toilet before you go into the theatre, either once at the start or also another time during the trailers.
4. Make sure you've had a dump beforehand, or that can irritate your bowels and make you want to go pee.
5. Wear enough warm clothing and bring a blanket if necessary.
