It's funny you bolded the last part of my statement, only to repeat your self the first part:

"Not that Jews cannot base something on Jesus,"

My point was that saying that they were Jewish is evidence that the based the character on Jesus is simply a non sequitur.

My fault, I'm writing quickly and doing three things at once. I'm saying yes, and everyone agrees, that the christ allegory IS there in both the donner and singer films.

But just because they used Christ as inspiration doesn't mean Seigel and Shuster did. Seigel and Shuster were a world away from Donner and Singer.

I know that the Siegels own Supes' original symbol and his jumping ability, Clark Kent and Lois lane...but do they also own the trunks? It seems that way.

I always prefered Jor-El leading a double life. I have a story where Jimmy Olsen accidentally sends Superman back in time to Krypton, where he meets Jor-El and Lara as KBI agents before they get married.

I believe Tom Mankiewicz, the so-called creative consultant of Superman: The Movie, is also Jewish.

That's what makes the character great.

Some see him as Jesus, others as Moses, etc. And neither interpretation is wrong.

Really the director-approved screenwriter. He was denied a credit by the WGA and so became a "Creative Consultant."

It seems that way. The original strip by them had Supes in trunks....so taking them out of the equation makes it more DCs now.

What are the chances of a sequel with the lawsuit hanging over WB/DC's heads?

Trunks-over-tights can't be copyrighted or trademarked as such - all kinds of competing heroes use (or used) the same "fashion." But, yeah, every little bit of distance from the original S&S design probably helps WB.

They can be copyrighted when used in conjunction with other things. A guy dressed in tights with trunks isn't breaking a copyright for Superman...a guy in tights, shorts, cape, AND a big S on his chest...is.

Well, that basic configuration has been used by others – though, obviously, not in blue and red and not with the trademarked .

If the S&S heirs walk away with Action #1, it’ll be interesting to see what DC/WB are left with in terms of what their half of “Superman” is allowed to look like.

I know!! Please where did this regal crap come from? For years I've been saying I wish had copyright on that word, because I'd be rich just from it's usage in the Superman forum.

If I could copyright any word in the English language, I'd copyright 'the'.

I'd make billions in hours.

I think Marvel actually intended for Superman to be the start of Marvel zombies, instead of Sentry, since it was drawn as Supes with the S ripped off his chest. They made it into Sentry at the end, but the chest is still ripped off.

IMO the Superman costume looks bland without the trunks.

That allegory came much much later. It's documented that Superman was inspired by flash gordon and other pulp heroes at the time, not to mention the refugee parallels. Read about it. Now I won't discuss this further because what I've stated is fact. If you want to continue, PM me.
Doesn't change the fact that Superman is blue and red, royal colours. And often referred to as a higher being, aka. a god...aka. kings (kings were of the monarch, they were "higher power")

This isn't a religious debate, it's about why people view Superman as "REGAL" (i'm getting so annoyed of that dumb word) From colour meaning to allegories, people of today sometimes refer to him as godly or royalty, and those are some of the reasons why.
If you don't like it, it doesn't affect me in any way. You asked, I told. The end.
